If the alleged rumours are true, then Derby are taking a massive gamble.

he has been free to sign for another club since the day we sacked him... there are no transfer deadline days for out of contract players....

Agree.. but that down to the player...
The club have a strict discipline rule.. players know..
Most players don’t give 2 hoots about the club and fans..

Plenty of rumours, some more plausible than others but nothing that is fact so think we should hang on before the club bashing imo.

Derbys gain is our loss.
NML was great for us from where I was sat. Block 113 near the front.
Would have him back in an instant.##6 month ban for what by the way ? - drink driving I guess. That isnt a sackable offence in my opinion.
Plenty of players have done similar or worse.

How anyone could think he wasnt great for us is beyond me

This is where Warnock was a great manager

Bringing in players like Mendez-Laing, Junior Hoilett and Sol Bamba for nothing.

When he had money he did waste a lot of it, but then Warnock Saved us from relegation and got us promoted bringing in £200mill

I know he’s gone off the radar but I also think he did well bringing in Louc Damour for peanuts too. I rated him as ok, certainly as a squad player.

Can’t see how anyone can make judgements until they know he was sacked for.

I agree. But I’d still love him back if he’s clear to play now.

People have been rehabilted and brought back into a first team, after failed drug tests, beating up partners etc etc, a drink driving offence? not heard of any players been sacked for that, although I think drink drivers should be banned from driving for life. So my own personal opinion is that he was not sacked for a drink driving offence, whether it was anything related to the aftermath of that offence I have no idea

Totally agree. It obviously wasn't drink driving as he would have been arrested by the police and charged and it would have come out. I favour the rumour that he beat up a clown who was standing outside a branch of McDonalds.

All I can tell you is there was NO drink driving, No car smashes, No assaults etc etc

His 6month ban is up from the EFL.

For skill yes :thumbright:

But he had warnings that’s all
I can say so never learns or respected us.

Doesn't matter what the club supposedly lost, he done something bad to be sacked with immediate effect, so to me he let the fans, the club ( who paid him well ). and himself down.
Wonder if it will ever come to light what went on, hope not as it's very refreshing that news always used to be leaked out of the club boardroom but now it stays where it should.

If it has been a 6 month ban for recreational drug use then it would be a second "offence", i.e. we have previously been paying him while serving a 3 month first "offence" ban. Seems quite right to cancel his contract in those circumstances not least as it implies that there is significant likelihood of it happening again.

If it’s drug related I can’t see his police haven’t been involved

Jules,

I know you love saying that  , but clubs will always have leaks and yes I 100% do know what he did, but I gave my word and yes the famous Committee were finally right on something.
I love Mendez as a player on his day .

Annis I’ve been told the same story by 3-4 different sources. I do respect that you’re unable to say but did it involve NMLs refusal to do something?

6 months sound par for the course for having a punt of two with Joe Coral.

Agreed. I only recently joined this board and there must have been dozens of threads about NML which I haven’t read. Forgive me if this has been suggested before but the rumour I was told is that he had been participating in cage fighting, bare knuckle boxing or something similar.

To make us feel better if he does sign for Derby, we can console ourselves that he will be 29 in April which isn’t young for a footballer. (How many of us would live to wake up that age again tomorrow!!). Also, being hefty he may have gained considerable weight being out of training and lost much of his fitness. He’s unlikely to be anywhere near their starting line up for at least 8 weeks. That would be my take on this.

When he was good he was very good but that seemed to be in bursts.

Other times it was like having 10 players on pitch.
