My theory is the standard in the championship has improved immensely.
We are playing catch up.
It could well take two embargo free transfer windows to fully catch up.

Dropping Alnwick was baffling as he has been excellent this season….can’t do Alnwick confidence any good

I totally agree about the criticism of Bulut as I think his decision making today was really poor. I did not hear his comments about Tanner, but I was surprised that he had taken him off after his first half display. To replace him with Ugbo was even more surprising as he is very poor in comparison. Yes, he has scored three goals this season, but I could have scored two of them and
I’m in my eighties! Meite is the one that should have been taken off, as he missed an absolute sitter in the first half, and contributed very little throughout the game. Like most people, I was very surprised that he dropped Alnwick as he has played really well this season, but I really do not understand the blaming of Runarsson for two of the goals. I thought he had an excellent first half and commanded his box throughout. He had no chance with the first goal, the second one was Panzo’s fault for losing his man, and the third goal was a pure freak. I agree though that Alnwick has been poorly treated, but not Runarsson’s fault. I am not a really big fan of Ralls because he is so one footed, but he had a very good game today and scored a good goal with his ‘other’ foot. He and Tanner should have remained on the pitch without doubt.

Weren’t we winning when he took him off?
Also, we have quickly turned on the manager.
Lastly, we didn’t mind when Simpson was being slated.

We lost because we went 2-0 up again and tried to defend and see the game out and couldn’t that’s the reason we lost we need to defend better

Reading between the lines it seems that Bullut was being critical of OTs defensive work which tbh I had reservations about. Hopefully it’s a learning curve for him.

The problem was the team started to relax after the second goal and sat back..must learn to keep their foot on the pedal...tried to step it back up after Ipswich equalised but by then the tide had turned.. championship teams do not lie down until the final whistle..I put this one down to the manager, changing shape..same as QPR with slow substitutions..he will learn though..I think this team as good players..and can do well..as long as the manager doesn't lose them with personal attacks that is

Yep it's as simple as that, he asked Tanner to do something tactically and he didn't so he pulled him off , now how many times did he ask the player ? Did the player respond?
Yes he runs fast but thats half of the modern game. If Tanner has anything about him he will show the manager and us by responding positively...
We're looking in the wrong direction why ask about Tanner , when there's more to be asked about the defence. Typical one eyed media question .
However I would say going 5 at the back sent the wrong message and that's definitely on the manager .
This start to the season away from home has been brutal, and a few are running on empty , hence the 60 minute games we delivering.
The good news is we're have been very competitive in these games .

Very misleading subject line.
Bulut doesn’t blame Tanner for the defeat in any way. He was asked why he subbed Tanner and he said he wasn’t satisfied with his performance. Straight answer. You can agree or disagree with his assessment but Bulut doesn’t blame him.

I don't agree but understand the 3 at the back decision. Protect what you've got etc. Swapping the gks is a strange call and you're on a no win situation.

There's a comment on the BBC HYS from an Ipswich fan saying how glad they were that Tanner was taken out of the game as he was causing problems.

Ralls going off also coincided with Siopsis starting to tire which was the platform from which we had a great first half.
Tanner had a good first half, and is still learning about the defensive duties, but didn't deserve to be pulled as he was offering plenty going forward.
Alnwick shouldn't have been dropped full stop. What the hell is Bulut thinking?
Encouraged by the football played in the first half but we still have a soft underbelly, and some of the managers decisions are baffling??

"I was not satisfied with his performance"
Here we go again, players read Twitter, forums etc. and see far, far worse. Difference is, they respect the gaffers opinion and if they are going to be any use to us, will use it as fuel to get better. If that breaks them as a player, why on earth is anyone ever asking for more honest managers, let's just get Slade or Solskjaer back, smiling in defeat.
Out of possession Tanner was trying to be part of the team press and trying to get back into positions to defend, but looked uncomfortable. It's a big step-up for him and he is doing well. The analysis team will look through his first ever 45 minute half in the Championship and he will learn loads from it.
Managers will do anything to increase the growth curve of a player. A lot of young lads need tough love and thrive off of it. Those who don't, what are they doing in the top two tiers of English football?

Having seen the gaffers reaction and his wording, I'm more inclined to believe that what Bulut is saying, when he says about Tanners performance, is not about the quality of the kids efforts, but more relating to his being booked and the discipline or lack of it that was shown by Ollie, and the very real possibility of him being sent off. You look at any interview that Bulut gives, and there is always at least one statement, due to the language barrier, that has you scratching your head, but after you examine it, becomes decipherable. Let's all stop wetting our pants over a phrase which is clearly being taken out of context.

What ever way you want to look at it, Bulut shoukd not be just criticising one player from the game, a player who is not yet a hardened professional.

I absolutely agree that no manager should criticise a particular player publicly but don’t think you can really say he did that here. He was asked why a particular player was taken off and gave a reason.
Personally, I can’t for the life of me understand what Tanner did wrong either offensively or defensively and yes his yellow card was stupid but how many hardened players are doing the same thing right now and being punished for it as it’s always been part of the game and hard to get out of your system .
I don’t think many of us really understands the decision to take him off and can only hope it has been explained to Tanner and he understands/learns from it.

Bulut didn’t single him out. He was asked a question by the press specifically about why he subbed Tanner which he responded to. He didn’t bring it up himself.

And should of said he had taken the lad of for tactical or other reasons. Not have a public go at him, a fact

Would prefer Bulut be honest. People were praising him for being honest when he first came in and said the squad needed more quality, rather than saying he had a good squad. His comments on Tanner weren’t scathing, like Morrison’s on Davies. It was direct which can be viewed negatively by some. Don’t mind it personally. Bulut is an experienced manager. I’m sure he will have spoken to Tanner and explained. He obviously sees something in Tanner to have started him.
