It looks like a nerve has been opened.

Very very interesting and has opened my eyes.

Took the words out of my mouth about Tan selling up.

Other clubs went through the same as us, the whole of the UK did.

Spain, were awful to the people gave them pennies and made them wait 6months.

Businesses in Uk were given fortunes, a fact and never had to pay back.

According to other media sources...

Cardiff City implemened 20% pay cuts for management and other high earning staffs but significantly not players, whilst putting non-playing staff on the Government's furlough scheme as they faced the stark reality of the coronavirus crisis...

At that time, the Bluebirds took an estimated £400,000 from match-day revenue, but hadn't had a home game since the 2-2 draw with Brentford at the end of February 2021

With no sign of when they would play their remaining Championship fixtures at Cardiff City Stadium, the Bluebirds hierarchy said they had been forced into action for non-playing staff.

Choo and Harris each accepted the 20 per cent pay cut, which was also the case for other Bluebirds high earners who remained working to keep the club ticking over. Those who fell into this category but who were on lower incomes didn't see their salary affected.

However, the majority of the non-playing staff were placed on furlough for the duration.

The PFA, the players' union, had reportedly told their members nationwide not to accept any wage cuts.

Additionally, Cardiff City had submitted an application to the English Football League for an £8million support package to help stabilise finances over the coming months as the coronavirus pandemic continued to take its toll.

This was because the Football Association of Wales had been allocated £1.5m to disseminate throughout the country as they choose. However, professional teams in the English league system like Cardiff, Swansea City and Newport County were not allowed to benefit from said Welsh Government grant.

I have no beef in this, other than believing it to be right to try and get balance in everything, so my only point here is that our club 100% borrowed money at the time of Covid 19, saw senior management take pay cuts, players (seemingly) take no such cut, and as usual, the staffs at the lower end of the scale be placed on Government furlough...

Money was 'borrowed' but at some point(?) it had to be paid back, so maybe Keith Morgan might be able to shed a light on what actually occurred and how we were genuinely affected...? :ayatollah:

Chris

I can`t comment on specifics on how much of a wage saving there was from furlough support as such information is simply not publicly available. However, on a fairly consistent basis player wages account for about three quarters of the total club wage bill. Therefore, as players didn`t accept a wage cut or were subject to furlough support because of their earnings levels, it is pretty certain that the club suffered greatly through the Covid shutdown period for over a season as matchday and sponsorship income was hugely reduced as well as the reduction in tv coverage income.
One benefit (in a way) that came about from Covid is that clubs were allowed to make a Covid adjustment so that allowable losses under FFP were increased from the normal average of £13m per season over a three year rolling period. The adjustment was subject to an audit ( I suspect not a very stringent one) by the football authorities before acceptance.

You mention the £8m of financial support but, as you say, this was a loan (repayable over three years) not a grant so didn`t improve the profit and loss account but just assisted with cash flow pressures.
