Good teams mix and match depending on how opposition play... must remember haven't got same players in squad so whilst we'll start at back the transition looks quicker.

That will be a welcome change but it also doesn't hurt to mix it up sometimes.

My complaint is faffing around at the back when we're losing with minutes or sometimes even seconds to go, which we did a lot last season, but as Alan says if the transition is a lot quicker then there's hope.

I agree with this. Over the course of a season we could give away five goals through pissing around at the back. That is potentially the loss of 15 pts.

Its hard enough to reach 90 points for automatic (or 75 for play offs) without giving yourself a -15pts disadvantage

Another way of looking at it is, if other sides play from the back, and we decided not to, we could potentially have a 15pt advantage over others.

Paul don't you think every team in league will lose goals same as city will? Certainly from games I've seen teams do ... so we just need to keep mistakes to a minimum

Yes definately. I think minimise the risk at the back

Funny you should say about fannying about in last couple minutes ... have you noticed even in premier league teams never show urgency when in injury time? I've seen teams not put ball in penalty area for last 5mins even when losing! ffs got plenty notice only got set time to score but do nothing about it. That's modern football.

F-T 0-2

Two beautiful goals give City the win in their final pre-season match.

With the recent transfers in, although only Willock had a decent amount of time today, I was hoping that City would play with a more attacking intent this season. I know it is only a friendly, but that was another turgid display despite the two well taken goals. Against a team in a lower division, I reckon the ball was in our half more than theirs, and when Horvath had the ball, it was like watching paint dry. This is obviously Bulut’s great plan, as ALL the City keepers are the same. For goodness sake, get the ball out of the half quicker, and I agree entirely with “ Welshman in CA” about messing about at the back - not only is it boring, it is extremely dangerous!
I was hopeful for a more enjoyable season with the influx of new players, but after the last three friendlies, I am beginning to doubt it. However, I hope you make me eat my words! Good luck to everyone for the season ahead.

I watched a different game to you then. Toyed with them at times and all fit to start next sat.

Couldn’t disagree more. Was quite clear that today was a lot more attacking than we were last season.

It was a decent performance in a pre season game a week before the season starts.

Have to agree. As Pembroke Alan said in a post above, we got the ball quicker to the midfield and attackers. It was much better than last season going forward.

Roll on Saturday :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Watched goals man c and Chelsea! Chelsea gave two goals away playing out from back what it showed is its risky and had pre season rustyness elements to the goals... it looked like city at times yesterday at the back but expect it to improve with full 11 and as get use to speed of competitive games

We are not good enough to play from the back end of. So predictable keeper to Goutas back to keeper or full back then 9 times out of 10 panic stations. We hardly ever beat the press, I think once or twice yesterday it came off. Why not bang it up to the striker we got two pacey wingers to flick onto now. I can see Sunderland scoring at least one from a defensive error Saturday.

I saw Goutas, NG, Ralls, Siopis, O'Dowda among others receive and pass. Only once do I recall us being caught out and that was from a poor hoof ball from NG that led to their forward being offside.

Agree.

Horvath is very good with his feet. Chambers is brilliant with the way he plays the ball, can tell he was in the Arsenal set up for years.

Also people have to consider that our concentration/intensity will be a million times higher for the game next week.

Yes like a say mostly Goutas, full backs and keeper. Glad you mentioned Siopsis we almost conceded when he received ball on the edge of box lost it and keeper needed to save a one on one. It just doesn't work and the risk outweighs the reward imo.
