Loads of Sunderland fans on my train down from Swindon. Most think they’ll get beat today. The beauty of opening day is there is so much optimism and the wanting to get off to a good start.
We all remember beating Norwich at home with Morison in charge
I hope we play on the front foot and hopefully get off to a good start

Debuts for Chambers & Willock. Rallsy, Sio & Rambo midfield. Robbo up top! Come on City!

Perfect team choice in my opinion
El ghazi obviously comes in when fit and potentially Robertson

Hope Robinson can get a goal today, imagine he’s the double digit goal scorer we have been missing? Optimistic but always good to be positive.

More mid table mediocrity this season then. Time to switch over to the Olympics
Sat Aug 10, 2024 11:56 am
Still think we will win this 3-1
£5 at 29/1

Ralls and Siopis didn’t work last season and it’s not going to work this season.
Turnbull or Colwill should have started. We have created very little and Sunderland look neat and tidy when they have the ball.

Not really been troubled apart from the free kick. Attack looks better but not gelled yet, players getting each others way.
Looks promising but needs work

Cardiff a little short on ideas, despite dominating the ball in good areas. Another attack thwarted.

We still need a striker, Robinson has had a few chances and failed to score, although the attack is generally better imo. Ramsey has gone missing so far. Disappointed with the first half. Let's hope the second half is better.

Oxford striker Harris who scored 15 last year in league one has just scored, he might be worth a look?

I do feel sorry for Tanner, this just isn’t his level and it’s showing massively today. He is completely out of his depth.

Agreed. He would struggle in the Welsh league let alone the Championship

He does seem to get bullied off the ball quite easily.

Half an hour in . Just like last season, away team has all the possession, plus a goal to show for it. Bulutball creates silence at home which boosts the away fans. Yet again our striker is isolated, Sunderland winning second balls and lots of headers, boosted by our predictability. Will he ever change this bloody formation. He didn’t last season, so what hope do we have for more variety this season? If there’s another goal here it doesn’t look like it’s going to be us. FFS City come on!!!!! It’s so quiet.

We are dominating the ball but just lack cutting edge, defence worries me today though.

All a work in progress.
Something needs to be changed in the middle of the park, the build up is too slow.
Robertson or Turnbull at HT for Ralls for me.
Tanner is a good player, he showed that when he had his purple patch last season, but he’s lacking in confidence. Bulut needs to take him out, bring on Meite.
In the meantime, he needs to see what makes him tick, because there is a very good player in there. He looks too scared to take his man on.

HALF-TIME! Cardiff City 0-1 Sunderland
Frustrating
Sat Aug 10, 2024 12:25 pm
We shipped far to many goals last season, the goal we shipped today suggest not much has changed at the back.
Keeper shouldve been out for that ball.
NG nowhere near Onein for the free header.
Tanner shouldn't be anywhere near this team.
Still, stats suggest we are in game and having more possession.
Hopefully, 2nd half improves

Agree apart from his deserved cult status from his derby cameo which he has failed to replicate, he is absolutely a league 1 player which is why I wanted a busier Ashford or a more creative Colwill to start . Or even O Dowda out there with Bagan coming in. Let’s hope El Ghazi shows his potential when fit please Bulut try for once just one holding midfielder if this game doesn’t change

Tanner has to be pulled.
Ng lacks pace to overlap in this system.
Tanner a better option than Colwill or Meite... I think not.
