Not sure i'd rate our fans views on football though. Many thought Whitts was a terrible player for years, many thought Hudson was the worst player to ever pull on the shirt, many thought. Lots thought Olofinjana was a good player etc. Cardiff fans seem to make opinions very quickly and follow the populous opinion regardless of facts.

Not to say there aren't legitimate reasons for some of these claims, but if you put up a poll "Who should start in a lone striker role? Miller or Gestede?" pre-southampton or maybe even now you'd get a similar result to this. Unfortunately majority does not make right.

Your first rule maybe, but i'd rather look at how a players ability pans out over a large space of time as they are human.

You mean form is temporary class is permanent? That's very true but unfortunatley football is a results based industry.

One player in the long term may be the better bet, but in the short term another player with less ability might be the better option because his form is 'on fire' so to speak.

Sorry but 'your own eyes' are pretty worthless and open to bias. Jay may not be the perfect player, but he contributed enough to get us promoted. The defence and goalkeepers didn't. And to think anyone could think Gestede was a better all round player is laughable. With Jay instead of any of Miller, Earnie, Mason, Parkin or Gestede this season we'd be top 6 by now NQAT.

Two players just a like but Bothroyd came alive in his late years of his career!

Gestede is a postive spirit and wants to play week in week out and i think hes quickly adapting to the league and Matt Mills couldnt handle him and i rate Matt Mills considering his money worth!

If anyone was at Pompey away we had a corner and Gestede turned to us and lifted his hands up to tell us to get supporting which was CLASS He said lets get louder and he loves the fans and we love him!

I recommend to meet him after a game hes the most tidiest player! He will talk for a fair bit!

Played upfront with better players around him than what he had at Wednesday and he will get goals, and bring others into play. Something Rudy wont give us.

To be honest you'd think being played on the right side of a front 3, which was how Jones was playing Bothroyd at Wednesday would suit him as it allowed him to cut in and unleash his rocket of a left foot. Also, Bothroyd is the only striker I have ever seen for City who prefers to drift wide and spend the majority of his time outside of the box. He wouldn't get into the box on the end of crosses because he didn't want to risk getting clattered and hurt. Bothroyd was always lazy, but to be fair to Jones he got him playing the best fotball of his career. Now however, Bothroyd is living off his 1 England cap and I would never take him back.

I think it's clear Rudy will never make the grade now. He is approaching 25 and to be needing special training off Darren Campbell at this stage of his career to run properly is ridiculous. Rudy still has to improve on so many aspects of his game and if he was a young 18 year old kid, I would be saying he is a rough diamond that could be polished. But he's nearly 25 now and I don't think he will improve any further. If we loan Rudy to a lower league team, I don't think he would stand out and then his value wll diminish further, so I would try and sell him for a couple of hundred grand now. But I believe he still has 4 years left on his contract, so unfortunately I can see him sticking around for a while yet. I like Rudy as a person, but he has looked lazy lately and we need much better if we are serious about promotion.

Bothroyd had the ability, but Rudy has the right attitude.

Can't believe Gestede is ahead of Bothroyd. For all his faults (mainly laziness) Bothroyd is a far superior player. He has more talent, holds the ball up and can score a lot of goals.....good goals too.

Jay has more talent in his little finger than gestede, not sure why people seem to think rudy is a hard working player I only ever see him jogging around while bellers does all the chasing down.
The important thing is bothroyd could play football with his feet rudy can't and never will I suspect.
