No we were given back the land that we got very little for to build a stadium and retail park that benefits the capital city of Wales. The council were built a nice new athletics stadium and major road improvements as part of the scheme.

The fact you sold the land in the 80's has absolutely no relevance.

It was council owned land that they could have developed themselves and made millions on. Correct?
They could have developed it themselves but the work done by PMG/CCFC put far more into the local economy than a council effort would have done. It also put more into Ridsdale's back pocket allegedly but we wont go into that.....
So to sum up:

Swansea City:
Stadium funded by Council selling off land on Morfa retail park to developers.
Stadium and surrounding land remains in Council ownership and shows as an assets on Council balance sheet.
Swans and (to a lesser extent) the Ospreys are fully responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of stadium.

Cardiff City:
Gifted enough land by the Council to house a retail park, a hotel, a sports centre and a stadium.
Stadium funded through sale of gifted land to developers.
Losses due to mismanagement of club funded by sale of gifted land for Sports Centre & hotel.
Nothing showing on the Councils balance sheet due to gift of land worth millions.

Is that accurate?

Not really-I think you are clutching at straws-find out the true facts if you want and show me the figures.

How about we discuss the rent that you lot pay on the leprosy stadium and how much you will spend on moving the caravan dwellers from your car park? Who paid to clean up the crap from the area? Was it SCFC or your council?

NJ all the thread is inaccurate! we paid 24mil +cost of athletic stadium towards our stadium regardless of what council did! whilst your council may not have paid anything towards cost stadium by same token your club didn't either! that's the difference! hence all this crap about our debt! given same stuation as you, we would not be in such a state financially at this time

No Al, the point being that the land for the shops was gifted to you for nothing whereas our council raised £27m for the same land by our stadium. And that's without gifted land that your stadium is built on.

does it matter if gifted or not? do you know what land was worth at time? fact is we paid 24mil+ towards cost stadium! whilst your council made money from sale land ect , the fact remains you did not as a club pay anything towards stadium costs did you?
it was reported that you had loan from council to finish hospitality area at the time!

ok! we were gifted land for stadium! did you pay for land yours is on?! and you didn't answer question about what you paid towards cost stadium! which is what I thought was relevant!

your council got 27 mil for land and didn't they then build a stadium for you? isn't that a gift aswell? :D

No one is denying that though.

You lot constantly harp on about us paying rent (despite the fact we actually do in way of upkeep), yet completely ignore the fact that you received a gift of land. Basically, it seems you were given the equivalent of a free stadium, indeed more.

I don't that's for sure! but anyway not going to argue toss about this anymore, doesn't matter how much land we were gifted ect ect the fact remains we had to pay 24+ mil towards stadium costs, you didn't pay anything! that's why such a difference in clubs financial situations,

and at no time in this good debate have you admitted you paid nothing for your stadium when we all know you didn't, well maybe peanuts probably! anyway end of debate i hate circles!

If you were gifted land worth £40m for instance and paid £24m towards the stadium, how did you manage to lose money on the deal?

While we didn't pay directly towards the stadium we did contribute in terms of acquiring a couple £m worth of football trust grants.

The difference in the clubs financial situations is down to the fact that in the last 10 years, we have lived within our means whereas your lot have lived in cloud cuckoo land

Gareth havnt you learned that they paid everything themselves! Thru the 58mil they put into economy!
In all the threads they have created over this subject, not once have they admitted the club have not paid a penny towards the cost of stadium. Waste of time discussing it really, tried last night with him gave up in end hate circles as no end to them!

Gareth, you appear to be a bright chap so I don't know why you have such difficulty with this. I'll explain it yet again for you.

There is no "rent" as such payable from us or the Ospreys to use the stadium. The agreement is a % of all gate money from both clubs goes into a sinking fund which then pays for all upkeep, repairs and improvements to the stadium. This is a far better deal for the council rather than a straight rent payment and them and landlords being responsible for the upkeep etc, especially the older the stadium gets.

Ok, did you understand that?

As for 1985, I've no idea. If you can put your hands on any documentation from the period then you've done better than me but such things from 30 odd years ago are not easy to find.

If you wrote off 95% of your debt (something we didn't do of course as we still had to pay the taxman in full), you still wouldn't be well run as your outgoings are far in excess of your incomings.

Now that is all cleared up, would you like to go back to the discussion about how your club were gifted millions of pounds worth of land at the expense of the Cardiff taxpayer?
