As first revealed by NewsAtDen, the Bluebirds are long-term admirers of the left back and firmed up their interest with a concrete offer in the last 48 hours.

Malone is out-of-contract in the summer and there have been no talks about an extension to his deal at The Den, so Cardiff are hoping to nab him for a cut-price fee.

But their opening bid of around £75,000 has been rejected.

Because of Malone's contractual situation, there is a limit to how much he will command in the January transfer window.

As a result, it is understood the Lions would be more inclined to part with the 23-year-old if Cardiff offered a player in exchange for him.

Cardiff City are closing in on Millwall left-back Scott Malone after tabling a second offer for the former Bournemouth defender.

And any deal to bring the 23-year-old to South Wales could see striker Nicky Maynard head in the other direction.

Malone, 23, is out of contract at the end of this season, with Millwall manager Ian Holloway resigned to losing him.

Holloway is thought to be keen on an exchange of players rather than a cash deal and has already turned down a £75,000 offer. Cardiff’s new bid is around £100,000.
Millwall, though, are in desperate need of attacking improvements and there are suggestions from London Maynard could fit the bill.

Maynard is out of contract this summer and has not started a match since Russell Slade was appointed manager.

City paid £2.5m to West Ham for Maynard at the start of 2012/13, but he can walk away for nothing at the end of this season.

The Bluebirds may also be open to allowing Maynard out on loan, even paying part of his wages.

The Dublin-born forward signed a new deal at the Sky Bet League One club back in August, however he could be set for a move away if the right offer is placed.

It is highly unlikely Chesterfield boss Paul Cook will want to see one of the club’s prized assets leave, however if a sizeable fee comes in for the striker, a move may have to happen.

Doyle is known for his superb movement in and around the opposition box, making him a menace for opposing defenders. His knack of finishing opportunities handed to him is also very impressive, his ability to score goals is somewhat resemblant to a young Michael Owen.

The Irish Independent suggests that Cardiff City, Sheffield United, Preston, Bristol City and Millwall are also eyeing a potential move for the clinical striker.

Doyle joined Chesterfield from Scottish side Hibernian in 2013, and he has really hit the ground running at the club after scoring 29 goals in 64 appearances at the club.

The 26-year-old forward has had previous spells at the aforementioned Hibernian, Sligo Rovers, Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne.

A move to Derby County or Celtic will be a significant change in Doyle’s professional career, and he would need to quickly adapt to playing football in a higher division, but there is no denying he has the talent to succeed in a tougher league.

Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn is reportedly keen to bring former striker Luciano Becchio back to the club.

The Argentinian striker has had a torrid time at Norwich City since leaving Leeds in January 2013 and he has made just 16 appearances with just two starts.

The 31-year-old recently spent time on loan at Yorkshire neighbours Rotherham United and he had scored two goals in five appearances before an ankle injury ruled him out for the remainder of his loan spell.

Becchio, who scored 86 goals in 221 appearances during his time at Leeds, has recently returned to training and Redfearn wants to bring the striker back to Elland Road and solve their attacking problems having failed to score in open play in 535 minutes since Mirco Antenucci scored at Ipswich Town on December 6th.

The poor run in front of goal has seen Leeds pick up just one point from their last six games and they are now just one point above the relegation zone.

Leeds have been linked with a host of striker already in the January transfer window with Sassuolo striker Leonardo Pavoletti in talks with the club and he was present at the home game with Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day.
