Which is more important - adding to the squad, or keeping the spirit and cameraderie of the existing players?
I can see MMs point of view here, in that bringing in the wrong player could disrupt what he has built up already. We all know that ideally we need a new striker and one or 2 fullbacks, but could we still do it if no new players came in?
My feeling is - probably. There have been constant minor changes to the first team all season, and we have coped with it very well. I see no reason why that can't carry on. We may not be exciting to watch at times, but we are still a damn good side.
There are still 17 days left in the transfer window, and only 1 game during that time so MM can afford to take his time. A week after that, the loan system comes into play, so there is no need to panic yet. If the Brayford deal doesn't come off (and you can't blame the player for holding out for definite Premier League football now, rather than possible Premier League next season), then you can be certain that MM and his team have other possibilities lined up.
One or two new players may help the cause, but aren't necessarily essential to promotion.

Defensively now I think we are ok. But I do now think we might need a bit of new blood in
up front. Our goals were coming from all over the pitch a few weeks ago but we don't look
as threatening

Happy with the squad we have but need to get rid of some players and make slight alterations i.e. get rid of Bambi Gestede, Earnshaw etc all the dead wood. In my eyes we'll get an experienced Left Back/Right Back on loan/maybe perm from a Premiership side and that'll be our business done. But we really do need a striker to score more goals than us, we need a striker that can create things out of nothing, a lot of our strikers are limited in their play.
I'd really like to see Malky mix it up a bit if he does keep the same players, a 4-3-3 would work well I think.
Marshall
McNaughton
Hudson
Connolly
Taylor
Whitts
Gunnar
Kim
Noone
Helguson
Bellamy

Smith should be in ahead of Kim imo but that's a decent looking team. I would worry about Taylor defensively without Conway in front of him tracking back mind and I would bring Turner in instead of McNaughton and move Connolly to right back. Connolly has been getting criticised lately but I would still pick him at right back ahead of McNaughton every time.
To answer the question, no we cannot do without new players and if we don't strengthen fast, the Leicester's will quickly catch us. If we bring in a good left back, right back and a mobile target man (we have really missed out with Wood imo, he would have been perfect for Bellamy/Mason/Maynard to play off), we will win the league. If we fail to strengthen, we will probably finish 3rd and miss out again. There is still a long way to go and although 8 points is a huge gap at this stage of the season, we want to keep things this way. Other teams are strengthening and if we want to sustain our 8 point advantage, we need to strengthen as well, otherwise we will get caught.

We can, look where it's got us. But we also need a bit of strengthening up front to stop Leicester catching us. Sordell would be ideal, knows where the goal is and is young, plus he's worked with Malky in the past. IMO that would get us where we want to be.
Although Malky does need to mix it up a bit more. Kev should be played instead of Connolly, while we have Smith back now for extra rotation

we wont be able to do it if the teams around us all add to their squads... the second half of the season will be more difficult.

Let's not get carried away with this Chris wood at Leicester - his goals have come against a team without a win in 11 matches (Huddersfield), Burton Albion in the FA Cup and Bristol City, the team with the worst defensive record in the division. He is a good solid striker, but the fact that he has been out on loan all over the place, and is not wanted by a lower half Premier League team says it all.

Love the squad we got now but everyone is adding.. we got 19 games left and it ent going to be easy.
2 or 3 players. A fullback and Striker. Maybe an extra versatile defender or midfielder would be a bonus to add.

We've done pretty well up to now,but I agree with most that we need a striker and a RB . I believe we can make it without strengthening but I see it going down to the wire . I think Malky's head has been turned after the Conway transfer request.
Leicester have strengthened and could be this years Reading.

We will possibly go up without any additions, but at the same time, we could finish the season with the worst form in the league quite easily,
premiership will be very tough I dont want to see us do a wolves or sunderland

If what we've heard is true and Maynard may be back by March then surely we would only need a loan striker until he is back to his best?

A club like ours need to go up with a pretty settled side. QPR wrecked everything they had through an owner getting overly involved, they would have not been in this mess under Warnock. The jacks went up and bought a championship striker for £4 mill and a goalie (because they had to) and more than survived.
We need to plan and buy for next season. Cameron Jerome would have been perfect (in spite of my never go back feelings). If Malky feels Charlie Austin is any good (thought he was invisible against us) then get him now. If we go up we need to steal a few early points due to the fact that no team has played us before and we can catch them napping early doors. To do this we need the bulk of next years team here now.
IMO big test for an unproven manager and ownership team.
We can't go into next season in the premier league with 4/5 new signings........

Put it this way a few new faces will make things a lot easier.

I do think we would be able to achieve promotion with the current squad but will not hold onto the lead we have. A defender and striker are a must if we are going to sign anyone. Or just get a defender in AMD bring earnie into the fold.
However if we don't sign anyone could mean a bigger transfer budget for next seasonif we go up. Which i am in no doubt we would need.

If we can sell Earnshaw and loan out a youngster then it should open the door to MM adding.
