Cardiff City striker Rob Earnshaw looks to USA move after Tel Aviv troubles

WalesOnlineJan 15 2013

“I adore the this club and want to be a part of what is happening. The gaffer has done a fantastic job and I realise he has a squad that is tight together and focused on their target come the end of this season.

“But if I was needed I’d be there like a shot.”

Robert Earnshaw could be set to follow in David Beckham’s footsteps by playing Major League Soccer in the United States, after revealing that playing in troubled Israel wasn’t for him.

The Bluebirds striker is adamant that, given the choice, he would want to be part of a promotion winning City side between now and the end of the season.

But manager Malky Mackay has made it clear Earnshaw doesn’t figure in his plans and there is thought to be interest in his services from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps, where ex-Cardiff striker Kenny Miller plies his trade.

Earnshaw returned from a brief spell with former Champions League side Maccabi Tel Aviv last month, and admitted the sirens and rocket alerts that are part of life in the Middle East were not for him.

“The football was good, the city of Tel Aviv was unbelievably beautiful, but there were crazy moments,” he said. “I wanted something different, but it turned out a bit too different.

“Overall the experience was good, though, and I enjoyed the football. But I didn’t sign up for the politics and a war.

“The first time a siren went off we were in the middle of our training ground and the non-Israeli players weren’t sure what was happening.

“The players who knew sprinted off and we heard a big ‘bam’. That was the interceptor blowing up a rocket, but at the time some of us didn’t realise that.

“On another occasion I was driving to a game when the siren went off. I could see two rockets come across the sky and I thought ‘What am I doing?’

“It wasn’t happening all the time, but it did happen for a few weeks.”

Whitecaps are preparing to start a new MLS season, but Earnshaw did not give out any signal that he is particularly excited by the prospect of going Stateside.

“I am close to Cardiff, that’s where I started my career at the age of 16 and I have always wanted the Bluebirds to be playing Premier League football,” he added.

“It would be great to be with Cardiff when they go up to the Premier League. That’s what I want.

“If there are offers from other clubs I would have to think about them, of course, but I will also sit down with people at Cardiff City as well.

“I am fit and sharp, I was playing football regularly for Maccabi before I came back to Wales and I have a real love for the Bluebirds.”

Earnshaw is under contract to Cardiff until the end of this season and is back training with the first team.

But boss Mackay has made his feelings plain, saying: “I imagine Robert will be looking to play matches, which is not something he is going to get here.

“His representatives are working hard this month to get something moving for him.”

Mackay has a solid group of strikers in his squad, while he is looking to add one more, possibly on a transfer fee, between now and the end of this month.

Craig Bellamy, Heidar Helguson, Joe Mason, Rudy Gestede and Etien Velikonja are forwards in Mackay’s squad, though Nicky Maynard will play no part in City’s push for promotion this season as he recovers from a knee ligament injury.

Earnshaw is one of the few players to have scored more than 100 goals for the Bluebirds, while he has netted over 200 during a club career which has taken him to Derby, Norwich, West Brom and Greenock Morton.

“I can leave Cardiff, but I don’t know what might happen,” added Earnshaw. “I was on loan at Maccabi Tel Aviv, but now I am back and my contract runs until the end of this season. Goals are my business and I have no doubt there are more to come.

“I adore the this club and want to be a part of what is happening. The gaffer has done a fantastic job and I realise he has a squad that is tight together and focused on their target come the end of this season.

“But if I was needed I’d be there like a shot.”

Saying Earnshaw is miles better than Gestede is like saying Marshall is miles better than Earnshaw. They are two different types of player.

You have to ask yourself I'd Earnie is better than Bellamy or Mason. Answer that and you will know it is time to free up his wages.

Both were bought to score goals Gestede has proved nothing in that department , as Earnie really been given a chance NO so if Malky is not going to sign a proven goal scorer why give Earnie a go and if he's not up to it he's free to leave in the summer.
And lets be honest if we want to free up wages the first name that springs to mind is Mcphail closely followed by Cowie

Iwould love earnie to get a little run of games for us. I accept that he is not a starter but would use him as an impact sub. Will be sad to see him go and not get given the chance to help us achieve promotion

Yes they are 2 different kinds of player Earnie is a football player gestede is a basketball player.
having asked myself is earnie better than bellamy or mason While he is certainly not better than belloamy he is better than mason at the momment and I am certain he would still score more goals than any of them.
At least mason has the potential to be a good striker gestede does not his lack nof ball control and general posistioning play is astounding . It has been said in the past earnie does not get back and defend enough yet malkay is quite happy to play gestede who just jogs around while bellamy busts a gut to chase people down.
