Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay issues Blackpool warning to Bluebirds
Jan 16 2013
Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has told his Bluebirds stars to ignore any unrest at Blackpool and focus upon securing three more precious promotion points at Bloomfield Road this weekend.
City head to Lancashire on Saturday to face a club in turmoil after the loss of manager Michael Appleton to Blackburn.
Appleton had only been in charge of the Tangerines for 65 days after himself taking over when Ian Holloway quit Bloomfield Road in November to take the top job at Crystal Palace.
Blackpool have been given permission by Scottish Premier League outfit Dundee United to speak to their boss, Peter Houston, about the vacancy.
For the time being, Blackpool assistant manager Steve Thompson is acting as caretaker once more and has also thrown his hat in the ring for the job on a permanent basis.
Following his side’s 2-1 defeat at Charlton, Thompson admitted: “The players have had the stuffing knocked out of them again this week.”
But Mackay insists the goings on down by the seaside will have no bearing on the way he and his players approach the Championship encounter.
The Bluebirds may be eight points clear at the top with 19 games left, but Mackay is keen to see his side keep the intensity levels up.

He wants his team back to winning ways after City were held 0-0 at home to Ipswich in their last outing.
“We have had Blackpool watched recently as we always do. We’ve had our reports and I’m not expecting too much to change between today and the weekend,” said Mackay.
“I think even if Blackpool do bring a new manager ahead of the game there will not be time to radically change anything.
“A new manager might actually watch the first game from the stands or if he is in the dugout it will take time for him to start to influence things they way he wants.
“It can take weeks to start to turn things around to your way of thinking.
“Whatever happens at Blackpool, though, it will not change the way we prepare and go about things ourselves. We will be as thorough as we always are and we will go about our jobs as we always do.”
On the pitch the Seasiders have found themselves slipping down the Championship table. When the two clubs met at the Cardiff City Stadium back in September, Blackpool were riding high under then boss Holloway.
The Bluebirds saw them off 3-0 via two goals from defender Matthew Connolly and a strike from midfielder Peter Whittingham.

My concern is, sometimes when there is this much disruption behind the scenes at a club, the players stick together and have a backs to the wall approach. Let's hope they are as disjointed as the off filed events, after Wembley, Blackpool and their fans are up there with Leeds on my dislike list.

What is wrong at Blackpool though?
By that I mean, why does the job seem some sort of poisoned chalice at the moment? Is there something bad going on behind the scenes? Any rumours?

Oyston taking a lot of money out of the club and not putting enough back in. Fans really fed of lack of ambition.

Since we hardly ever win there (Steve Thompson game in 2007 aside) I'll take all the help we can get. Always been 1-1 or 1-0, when I've been there.
It'll be freezing up there, a pitch that gets harder as the games goes on, so can't see a classic.
