the rangers situation (get demoted to the lower leagues)
if for some bizzare reason man united, chelsea, man city or arsenal where to either get demoted to say the conference or even if they became shite as f**k and got relegated a few times do you think their fans would stay loyal to there club ?
imo half of the fans who attend wouldnt bother and would just fade away, opinions ?

In all fairness Man City fans stayed loyal when they were in whats now called League One only a few years ago

The newer Man City fans wouldn't, same with newer Utd fans. Utd would probably still get 45-50,000 in League 1, purely because they're so massive and more people would get a chance to watch them at a decent price. City would probably still get 30,000 as well

??? Man City averaged over 28,000 when they were in League one, so quite clearly they have a huge loyal fan base that stick through the bad times...

The new breeds don't go to games surely so it won't affect attendances.

but if the 28,000 fans went to league one games when they were crap, and had no prospect of money or EVER catching Man Utd in reality... then these fans are clearly still around and would clearly go to watch them if they fell from grace

and considering it was only 1999 they won the div 2 (old style) play-offs I would expect that most of these die-hards are still around enjoying their success, and are clearly a hardy lot not put off by abject failure

Man City average about 40-45,000 now. I don't think that number would drop too much if they were relegated. Back in the third division they were getting the likes of 30,000+ per game.
