Nigel Adkins was Southampton's most successful manager since 1912.
Adkins had the highest win % .
2 Consecutive promotions.
Southampton now climbing the Premier League.
Highest crowds at Southampton for years.
Then sacked
How can you expect managers to show loyalty to a club after this?
What do owners now expect from their managers?
Are they more impatient than the fans of their clubs?
Southampton to me are not a top 10 team, like Arsenal,Everton, Man Utd,Spurs, Man City,Chelsea, Liverpool,Villa etc, so to me just surviving your first season in the Premier League is a success
Di Matteo was treated the same by Chelsea.
Chris Hughton was treated the same by Newcastle Utd.

I don't post on here much (as you'll all know) but at times like this i feel i have to! I'm gobsmacked....is this is what football is coming to. I've felt less and less 'loyalty' to us since the red saga and listening to friends tonight saying that atkins had been sacked just made me think....why!
I can see the Chelsea scenario, and how that worked out, but what immediately springs to mind is this could potentially be our manager if we ever get to the 'promised land'
Football is changing

Someone will mention DJ soon

Coakers....DJ had a great run but eventually ran out. Nigel A should have been given this season and next given what he has done for soton!!

DJ was given plenty of time to deliver,' 6 years and won nothing ', in football 6 years is a life time, as you can see what happens to other managers in quarter of the time DJ had and they won Cups/Promotions .

Fully agree, I like Adkins and I think he would have kept them up.
As for DJ his time was certainly up but I bet people could post up stats to show he had a good run for us.

There has never been so much money in football.
Who puts the money in? Money men.
Where they get their money? Football? No. Business? Yes!
They treat their investment as business and as such want quicker returns on their money, they are inpatient, they invest for a return. (there are some exceptions i.e. Dave Whelan).
Will Malky take us up? I hope so.
Will he keep his job if we struggle in Prem - I doubt it very much
Hope i'm wrong!
Sorry to be so negative - but Adkins has done a tremendous job and whats happened to him!

I see them similarly to us, they are too big to be lower than top half championship but should be ecstatic being out of the drop zone in the premier league when they are lucky enough to be there.

I don't see how this guy can possibly do any better than Adkins. He had a very tough start in the league, then he finally starts picking up some points, only 2 defeats in 12! Steering them away from the relegation zone, then he's told to f**k off!
The owner said he did it for the future of the club? I can't even begin to understand the complete and utter stupidity of the man. I've never been so angry about another clubs business in my life! This new guy doesn't speak English, the players are obviously going to be disillusioned as they had a connection with Adkins, they wanted to do well for him. Will they even want to play for this new guy? You could understand if Fergie or Mourinho were his replacement, but what has this guy ever done? I thought he mutually terminated his contract with Espanyol 'cause they were doing shite in La Liga? ARRRRRRRRRGGGHHH. It irks me.

Agree fully with Morty.....i'm livid about this and i don't particularly like soton, if anything they are a team i like to see lose- but this is more than one club, its the state of football today! Annis / Luke, i'm not wanting to make this into a was DJ good or not, I was just saying! But it's actually a good example to put whats happened into context!!
I've never heard of this guy and it's just another foreigner managing a british club (minus the CV)

If we go up do you think tan would keep Malky or go for a manager with a higher profile.
If tg still had the say I would say Malky would be safe now tan is fully involved I fear Malky would be replaced

Steve, My honest opinion, Malky wont last 6 months in the Premier under Tan, just my opinion. Rem how the Chief Executives have been given the chop under Tan.

Living in Hampshire with a fair few Southampton fans about they are all shocked and angry about Adkins' sacking.
As a neutral I find it incredibly harsh. Had they been bottom 3 and in Readings situation then I would understand it. 2 defeats in 12 games is good form and by all accounts they are playing well.

Dont know about the fans you know but the ones i know were shocked and angry about the sacking but by last night they were saying onwards and upwards and were even questioning Adkins substitutions and tactics? I thought the saying was a week is a long time in football but for them its a few hours!.

He can't be the most successful in 100 years.

The managers of newly promoted sides seem to quite often lose their jobs quite quickly. If you look at it this way, if you would only expect 3-4 Championship players to still get regular first team football in the premiership, perhaps owners also see that for the club to survive in the Premiership, just as they need Premiership calibre players, they also need a Premiership calibre manager. It's harsh, of course it is, for someone who has been with the club for a while, but you can understand the thinking behind it.

In all fairness though, Di Matteo was a bad manager. He was overrated. Did he deserve to get sacked? I don't know, but he wasn't as tactically great for a club like Chelsea. The tactic was simply play Mata and Hazard and try and get Torres to score. Then the season before that in Europe was simply play 9-0-1 and make sure Drogba can fall to the floor.
Good mid table manager, terrible big club manager. Disagree all you want, but it isn't that hard to find success when you park the bus and have huge amounts of quality around you.
