Stating the obvious, but still a real liability, at fault for the goal and almost gave a pen away.
I can't understand why Malky doesn't see or address this?
Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:29 am
He helped set up the 2nd goal
Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:55 am
He's been doing well lately, every defender gets beaten now and again, sometimes they get away with it sometimes they dont,
Sun Jan 20, 2013 8:05 am
I agree every defender gets beat, but it's week in week out.
Sun Jan 20, 2013 8:13 am
We have 2nd best defensive record. No need to fix whats not broken.

He probably is the weekest of our back four, but taking into account we have some good defenders, I think he is doing a ok job, but ok isn't good enough in some peoples eyes, that's fair enough,

Surely we are looking to improve all the time.. if it aint broken dont fix it? why not ..we then could have the best defence not the third.
Taylor did the same away to Palace he put his arm up for a free kick... trouble was it was in the box and Murray scored their third. He is the weakest link in the back four and a quality left back would tighten us up. Too many crosses come in from the right.... and he does get caught ball watching
He is excellent cover but i thought that Ralls was better than him when he came in
When he was at Middlesboro they replaced him at left back and put him left of midfield where he did play well but they obviusly used him as back up.
Just my opinion

Fair play, an utterly shit post. Taylor was not at fault for the goal and he didn't give a penalty away. I don't understand why people like you can't be satisfied with a 10 point lead and have to slag off one of the players who has earned us that lead.
I would suggest Malky is a slightly better judge of player than you and Taylor is his first choice.

I for one
used to think Marshall can be 'jumpy' at set pieces and fail to claim balls in his box, but in the last couple of months he has done better in this area and shown me what a top keeper at Championship level he is. As for Taylor he is the best left back we have, his distribution is far better than Super Kev and his crossing is often decent. I agree he
sometimes gets done, but even Ashley bloody Cole gets done sometimes so let's concentrate on saying he is our best left back and congratulate the team on a great team effort.

Taylor had a great game
Sun Jan 20, 2013 10:25 am
Taylor played well. Very well. Barely two or three crosses came in from the Left all game
and it was no coincidence that the cross for the goal came in from McNaughtons flank. Kev
also played well, but Taylor edges it because his distribution is far better. The goal? Well
Taylor-Fletcher is a big strong lad, he edged away from his marker, got himself between
full-back and the goal and just powered his way in. Taylor could have been a split-second
quicker? his overall game made up for it. Lucky with the pen? perhaps, but he did have his
back to the ball and thats what the referee saw. Excellent team performance last night. I
sometimes wonder why 'fans' just have to find the negatives. There were quite a few in that
first half, but f**k it, lets just give the whole team the round of applause they surely deserve
for a brilliant win on an absolute lottery of a pitch
Sun Jan 20, 2013 10:36 am
In this league he's fine. But WHEN we go up this position will need looking at!
Sun Jan 20, 2013 10:37 am
Taylor had a very good game yesterday IMO and admittedly with the assistance of Kim and others on occasion, he kept probably the best winger in the league (after Bellamy) running down blind alleys!
If you look at the goal we conceded again though, I think you'll find that Nugent let FatBoy go free and Taylor realising the danger, tried belatedly to get in front of him!
You may want to argue that Taylor was squeezed out of the way a little bit easy, but I think you have to give FatBoy a little bit of credit for being so forceful and determined!

Spot on Taffy. Superb win and 10 points clear, enough said.

Plus Whittingham should have closed the cross down better. Not taylors fault at all.

So you don't think a centre half should have been marking FatBoy then and that Nugent was guilty of ball watching and allowing him to roam free?
I'm not having a go at Nugent here, as he's young, inexperienced and has done a superb job for us in covering for Turner earlier in the season and did very well overall yesterday as well, but have another look at the footage of their goal!

Not sure about Whitts tbh, but there's a lot of people on here, that think full backs in particular, should be able to stop every single cross from our flanks, which is never going to happen!

A lot of goals originate from wide positions so the full back is almost always involved. If he isn't, then he should be! If people took a really close look at how many times Ashley Cole is caught out of position leading up to goals scored against Chelsea then they'd realise how good a job Taylor is doing lately. Part of the reason Cole doesn't get blamed for goals coming from his side of the pitch is because he's nowhere to be seen!

To be fair to Ashley Cole though, he's clearly expected to drive forward and help out their attacks, the same as Taylor is expected to bomb on when we're attacking!
It's then up to other players to fill in and cover for them, when they do bomb forward and it's far easier to be able to get a cross in, than it is to stop crosses from being put into danger areas!

Last 9 games = 5 clean sheets
Won 7 drew 1 lost 1 (22 points out of 27)
F=13 A=5
Not a bad defensive record, yet you still have a go at our players.

First and foremost a full-backs job is to defend. I don't think its a good excuse for a defender to be able to say 'it wasn't my fault boss, I was busy bombing forward then as I was jogging back they scored!'

You miss the point mate, Malky expects Taylor (the same for McNaughton & Connolly) to get forward and become an extra winger, like he did for our winning goal yesterday!
When an attack breaks down, he is then expected to make an effort to get back and defend, but it's a fecking long way back from the byline, which is why the other players are then expected to show awareness and cover for him!

I thought he was great.

Charlton away he was parks standard.
He's lucky the rest of our back three have been superb. Teams target him as our weak link.
Sun Jan 20, 2013 11:10 am
Taylor has been fantastic this season. In my opinion you can't criticise a player who's started every game in a team 10 points clear at the top. Also it's not all about individual ability it's about playing as a defensive unit and we are obviously doing brilliant at the momment. Were Adams, Bould, Dixon and Winterburn the best players around? I'd say no but as a unit I'm not sure if there has been better. Currently our back 4 all know their jobs and thats why we've conceded only 2 in 6.

The whole of our back four and goalie especially were park standard after the 35ish minute mark against Charlton, yet you single out this game, to try and justify you're slagging off of Taylor's performance yesterday, even when very few people on here disagree with you!

I think he's done well lately
