Malky Mackay considering move for free agent Simon Lappin

Thu Jan 24, 2013 2:47 pm

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has confirmed he is weighing up a move for midfielder Simon Lappin after he was released by Norwich earlier this week.

Lappin parted ways with the club by mutual consent following six years at Carrow Road after struggling to establish himself in the first-team since their promotion to the Premier League last season.

The 29-year-old Scot spent time on loan at Cardiff during the first half of the campaign, making two appearances for the Championship leaders.

Mackay is now considering whether to sign the free agent, who made 126 senior appearances for Norwich after joining from St Mirren in 2007.

"He is certainly someone under consideration," Mackay told the Pink'Un.

"We are still thinking about what we are going to do in terms of defensive cover and we will make a judgement on that before the end of the month.

"He has been here recently and he is someone that can comfortably play in a Championship team.

"He was a smashing professional when he came here, a good boy and a good personality to have around."

He's obviously a decent guy and player, but surely there are better out there we can get. For example I haven't seen Danny Fox getting a game at Southampton since that youngster Shaw started playing.

Why O why is after Lappin , he maybe ok ,but that's about it, surly we should be going for a better Defender than him, after all Malky haven't used him that much, and if we got aspirations of Top prem football , we will need better than him .

He didn't get much time when he was on loan so let's give him a chance to settle if he signs

IMO I think Malky will bring him in as cover for Taylor until the end of the season which tells me that he's not looking at him for the Prem (if we get there) and no I'm not in the know
