At thje recent Chelsea v Swansea match some young Chelsea fans were caught trying to take a smoke bomb in....they were arrested and reported to us that they had pretty rough time of it and were locked up until late the following afternoon....Today I have heard that 2 of the lads got a month inside and 6 yr banning order – 3rd got a 3 year banning order.
First offenders, and very strict punishment but a warning to fans that may be thinking of taking these things into stadiums...Don't...I do feel these three have been sentenced as an example to others and people get less for carrying a knife, but lets heed this warning and make sure none of our mates/fans attempt to take these smoke bombs into grounds.

That's fair enough Corky, it's happening more and more. Liverpool did it against Man Utd and it happened in the champions league.

Few in our group let 2 off at Reading last year
didnt think it was such an offence

I'm really glad some people are managing to sneak it in. It is safe and it brings on the great atmosphere. The punishment they gave is crazy!
They tried to ban a use of piro in Poland, but new chair of Polish FA - Zbigniew Boniek (star of Juve from the 80s) took the fans side and made it legal again.
I say use of them should be allowed here too.

Im glad I read that again, thought it was harsh for stink bombs
Thu Jan 31, 2013 10:22 pm
Someone keeps bringing stink bombs into the family stand ( I think ) or they got a serious problem.
The only problem is how do you tell who it is ?
Can the police do an underpants check to see who's soiled themselves and give them a 6yr ban and 9 points on their Licence ?

It's potassium nitrate, if I was around the smoke bomb and had to inhale it then I'd want similar sanctions brought on the perpetrator. Not to mention it CAN produce a tremendous heat at the source if made incorrectly which many of them are.
They are not allowed in stadia for a reason.

JUST SHOWS AGAIN HOW SHIT MODERN FOOTBALL IS- NO ATMESPHERE, NO PASSION, WHEN WILL WE ALL
FINALLY SAY, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Fri Feb 01, 2013 8:29 am
Or it shows how bad a modern fan is, why do you need a smoke bomb???? I don't remember them as a fixture of our club being used at ninian!
Fri Feb 01, 2013 8:37 am
Why dont you write to the club and ask them to do some sort of pyro show as the players come out and incorporate smoke into it like the rugby do ??
At least it will be controlled and safe then ?
The problem with them is if 3 or 4 go off at the same time in a small inclosed stadium like ours it could become very dangerous for fans not being able to see .Its ok in foreign grounds that are not fully inclosed
Fri Feb 01, 2013 8:49 am
Its so stupid. If people bring smoke bombs or flares into grounds, then yes they need to be watched during the game. However if there team score and they let them off in celebrating and singing then what is the problem. If they let them off and start throwing them at other fans, players or officials then that is the point where we have a problem. But if there just letting them off to create a better atmosphere what is the problem. Police and Stewards are just taking it too far.

Fair warning Cork, and I agree the sentence is OTT
A Man U fan let off a rocket type firework at our place, hit the roof, could have hurt someone, don't think the fella was caught
Fri Feb 01, 2013 10:27 am
What about Cardiff - spurs, that flare in the grange end was wicked and make everyone go mental - let them in i say

They caught the guy, other United fans pointed him out. As for the sentences, a bit harsh, but me and my lad were at a game last season where some dickhead let one off a smoke bomb without warning, not pleasant with my lads eyes stinging and having to move sharpish out of the smoke.
Daft tit did it right in front of the police control box, not sure what the outcome was with that one.

I'd understand a severe football banning order but custodial sentences for trying to let off a smoke bomb at a game? Seems a bit silly when you compare it to other sentences that are handed out for violent crimes.
Fri Feb 01, 2013 11:32 am
corky this is one of my concerns in the ninnian stand if a smoke bomb goes off there,at the end of the game there is a great deal of congestion by the entrances which could end up being a bottleneck to get out
i,m suprised the club got away with having no back emergency exits to be able to get out easier.

You can tell the young uns or newbie on this thread.
Have you ever been caught in a genuine 3000 or 4000 man crush or found it so hard to breath you almost faint ? A lot of the older guys on here will tell you how great it was in the 70's & 80's but as a young fit but skinny and weak kid I though I was a gonner more than once.
If you think we need gizmo's and uncontrolled pyrotechnics in the hands of pissed up 25 year old think again as it the old and the young that get hurt first.
The flair in the Wales Romania game was only a prank !!!!
The laws post Hillsborough dragged football into the modern age, we do not need to go back.
Ninian Park was a silent monument, it was the fans that gave it the buzz, Now twice as many fans barely mutter a whisper. Its nothing to do with the bricks and mortar, its the fans and we don't need dangerous toys.

I think this is one of the best posts ive read on here!
If you need a pyro to go "mental" as someone wrote in this thread then something is sadly wrong! What happened to watching the game and singing?! You want to throw Grenades come join the military and most would last 5mins!

How does a smoke bomb increase the atmosphere?
I find the team doing well on the pitch covers that.
A month in prison........a couple of weeks inside will teach them a lesson and show others what to expect. Exactly why they got that sentence.

Yeah i have been involved in a man crush as a matter of fact. (Not having a dig). When Ross McCormack scored the equaliser against Swansea at Ninian Park in the 2-2 draw i was in the Grange End right at the front as close to the away fans as possible as that was my spot whenever i went to Ninian Park. I was about 14 and had to get 3/4 stewards to come and pull me out. Still doesnt change my opinion on flares being allowed in grounds.

I was at the Millenium Stadium a few years ago when a man was killled when a flare hit him in the neck.
Likewise had been in a crowd when a flare#smoke bomb have gone off and to be honest I think it is pretty stupid.
What does it achieve, what does it prove - everyone near the damn thing tries to move away to get some breath!!
Punishments seem a bit harsh though

More recent example? Palace home last year. Shit atmosphere first half. Second half they lit a smoke bomb, more noise coming from them, more noise coming from us. Nobody got injured, just stunk the ground out a bit. I was in the Canton and it was much better because of it, I could feel everyone waking up to it
