Re-branding Questions?

Thu Jan 31, 2013 10:51 pm

Yes another re-branding thread but I would appreciate it if you could answer my questions as I am doing a project in uni about the re-branding at Cardiff City. I'm not looking for debates or people attacking each other on there views. It's an important project so sensible answers only please as this will be used in my project.

1. How long have you been supporting Cardiff City?
2. Is the premiership the be all and end all including having our identity taken from us?
3. Did/does our badge mean anything to you?
4. Does the bluebird mean much to you?
5. What hurt the most, the loss of the badge or colour of the shirt?
6. Did our colour mean anything to you?
7. Are you bothered about the identity?
8. Has it split our fans?
9. Has your opinion changed on the re-brand since it was announced and if so in what way and why?

Thanks in advance for answering these and if anyone has anything to add to these please feel free to and any other views would be appreciated, thanks :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: Re-branding Questions?

1. My first game was 2005 last game of the season.

2. Don't understand the question

3. It does mean something to me yes, I am open to a new logo but the one we got now is shocking and easily could be improved.

4. Bluebird means a lot to me.. Its a symbol and our proud nickname.. the chants include Bluebirds.

5. The colour I would say as badges can change and it isn't exactly a negative thing.

6. It did mean something yes.. but nothing lasts forever sadly.

7. I don't think we have lost our identity.. I like to think of us as the Bluebirds.

8. It has split a few fans as some have stayed and some of gone.

9. I was fully against it and straight away I questioned if I would go again but it wasn't a lot of thinking time.. Nothing lasts forever and nothing should stop anyone from supporting a club.

Re: Re-branding Questions?

1 - 24 years
2 - Rather have a club i can identify with and im proud of than sell out for prem football
3 - Yes its our identity and one of the first things people see about our club
4 - the bluebird is cardiff city and means a lot to every fan
5 - loss of the bluebird on the badge not that the design changed
6 - yes blue is synomynous with our club and should have stayed
7 - yes at the moment it is a mess and means nothing , i used to be proud to call myself a bluebird , not so much now .
8 - Yes id say 8/10 want blue but 8/10 are willing to go red to save the club
9 - no , it may change once the owners fulfil ALL there promises and a compromise is reached on the badge

Re: Re-branding Questions?

Thu Jan 31, 2013 11:20 pm

1. How long have you been supporting Cardiff City?
17 years.
2. Is being in the premiership the be all and end all including having our identity?
No it's not the be all and end all, far from it. I would take watching Cardiff in the Championship or below for however many years it takes to make the Premiership whilst in blue, over buying our way there in red, any day of the week.
3. Did/does our badge mean anything to you?
Just that, like the colour blue and the bluebird, it represents the club that I have supported since the age of 6. Since the changes, it doesn't feel like Cardiff City to me in all but the name of the club, and it kills me.
4. Does the bluebird mean much to you?
See above answer.
5. What hurt the most, the loss of the badge or colour of the shirt?
Hard to choose, but i guess i'd say colour. I'll never get over seeing other teams run out at the CCS in blue.
6. Did our colour mean anything to you?
Again, it meant a lot to me personally. Cardiff City are blue, always should be, in my opinion.
7. Are you bothered about the identity?
Very much so. The identity of a club is what makes it what it is, it's what i've grown up supporting and again, it's very hard seeing us as we are this season.
8. Has it split our fans?
Definitely, although i accept that i'm in the minority and that most of the fans have accepted the re-brand almost like it doesn't matter. I'll never understand that.
9. Has your opinion changed on the re-brand since it was announced and if so in what way and why?
If anything, seeing us in red all season has made me feel worse about it.
It really hits home to me how much i hate it when i realise that this has been my least enjoyable as a City fan, and that says something when we're flying at the top of the league with the best team we've had in my time as a supporter. I just want my club back. That's just my opinion. But i also realise that that's not going to happen any time soon, sadly.

Re: Re-branding Questions?

Thu Jan 31, 2013 11:34 pm

Since 1978

It's where we all wanna be so yes but our identity should go with us (if we make it)

Yes, a hell of a lot, Tradition I agree with but at the same time things change, countless efforts of a new badge would of been better than the shit one we got this season.

Yes, I have a bluebird tattoo, but, more importantly its always been the club nickname so we should stick with it FFS.

Shirt colour

Yes, being blue was synonymous to what we are called and known for.

Bothered ? Yes, but I understand it may change but not to the extent that it has, we are known to the world of those that care as the bluebirds so it should remain.

Yes without a doubt.

I've accepted it cos I have no power to change it, no power to voice my opinion, but am glad about how vt has helped our club but sick of what changed which there was no need for.

Re: Re-branding Questions?

Just my opinions

1. How long have you been supporting Cardiff City?
22 years
2. Is being in the premiership the be all and end all including having our identity?
No, not for losing everything, its the fans that make a club not just the players, but premiership football is important target
3. Did/does our badge mean anything to you?
The badge is part of our identity, the changes i have excepted, but time to keep it as it is now, bluebird to remain.
4. Does the bluebird mean much to you?
Yes
5. What hurt the most, the loss of the badge or colour of the shirt?
Changes made i can accept, considering investment and steps forward club have made, but further changes would be hard to swallow. I am all for promoting our club in malasia, but CCFC is a Welsh club and that must be given top priority, with our identity kept intact. We have excepted change to help our investers in Malaysia and i think we have been generous with it.
6. Did our colour mean anything to you?
Of Course it did, we are bluebirds who play in blue for decades
7. Are you bothered about the identity?
Its as important as premiership, identity is about the fans and players, the whole package.
8. Has it split our fans?
Initally it caused a huge split, but in my opinion, results and investment has healed some of it
9. Has your opinion changed on the re-brand since it was announced and if so in what way and why?

Someone putting 100 million into a club has some rights to do what they think will make the investment viable, lets face it i know a few places where i could get a better return for 100 million than a football club. Will change of colour make business sense? I do not know, however i would think they know alot about tradition over in far East. They have kept promises and got results so far ( deal with Sam needs to be put to bed thou). Changes were close to unacceptable, any further changes could be the straw that breaks the camels back. Its great having sales from Malaysia and i welcome it, however they do need to remember that our loyal fans pay hard earned money for season tickets and tickets game by game, many fans going without other things to afford it. Its these paying fans that keeps CCFC going, plus the support they give at the stadium. My opinion was i would swallow the changes if they kept promise, so far so good.

The above is just my opinion

1. Eight and a half years
2. Hell no.
3. The badge is not the identity to me, the bluebird is. As long as bluebird is on the kit all that matters.
4. Yes. Its our identity and as long as its on the kit i will be happy.
5. The loss of the badge
6. The colour blue means something but its not our identity
7. Yes I am and if the bluebird is removed completely i will be disgusted
8. Yes it has big time
9. Pretty much the same.

Would rather us in blue though with just the bluebird like the old kit but if it has to be a dragon then it must be a quality unique dragon and not the wales dragon.

ANSWERS

1. First game 2003 4-1 win against leyton orient in the league cup :)
2. Premier league has been the target for the last few years. In regards to the badge it was shit or bust wasn't it.
3. It's the identity of the club, no-one wanted the change
4. To me yes, to everyone yes
5. Close one, personally the shirt change for me
6. Again, silly question, i imagine everyone will give the same answer
7. Yes, i imagine the majority are as well
8. Definetely, i know people who have stopped going to games because of the re-brand, others have embraced it. I like many others will carry on supporting the club they love but will silently protest.
9. Not particulary, but too many have embraced it for things to change back.

Re: Re-branding Questions?

1. How long have you been supporting Cardiff City?
8 years in March.
2. Is the premiership the be all and end all including having our identity taken from us?
No, I'd take non-league football if we could be blue again.
3. Did/does our badge mean anything to you?
Our old badge meant a lot to me, it was a great badge. I don't mind the new badge that much but it doesn't look like Cardiff City.
4. Does the bluebird mean much to you?
It's our symbol, always has been.
5. What hurt the most, the loss of the badge or colour of the shirt?
Definitely the colour. Badges change all the time although I did love our old badge.
6. Did our colour mean anything to you?
It was our identity, so yes.
7. Are you bothered about the identity?
Very much so, I'll never wear/buy anything red (badge doesn't count).
8. Has it split our fans?
Yes.
9. Has your opinion changed on the re-brand since it was announced and if so in what way and why?
No. I'm still fully against it but I'll always support City through thick and thin.

1. 25 years
2. The prem is NOT the promised land for me.
3. our badge, heritage and colours mean much more to me than whoring our identity for franchise cash.
4. The bluebird is symbolic to our club, it oozes history.
5.Both equally, maybe the red shirts were a step to far for me.
6. Our colour is BLUE for Cardiff City FC not red for Malaysia Rebrand FC
7. See above
8. I dont think so, despite my strong feelings, i am enjoying whats on the pitch but because of the rebrand my enthusiasm has definitely waned and people have noticed I dont seem to be as 'obsessed' this season!
9. No, but am not as angry as what I was originally.

1. How long have you been supporting Cardiff City?

2. Is the premiership the be all and end all including having our identity taken from us?
The Premiership is seen as the holy grail, I'd still be a season ticket holder if we tumbled back down the leagues.
3. Did/does our badge mean anything to you?
Our crest was our identity along with the colour, I don't associate myself with the rebranded one it's awful
4. Does the bluebird mean much to you?
The bluebird is our nickname and should be preserved - It should be the focal point of any badge
5. What hurt the most, the loss of the badge or colour of the shirt?
Both
6. Did our colour mean anything to you?
I'll never be seen in anything red, I'll continue to wear blue to every home game until the day I die
7. Are you bothered about the identity?
Yes, The success we have had this season could have been achieved in our traditional colours with our traditional badge
8. Has it split our fans?
In one word yes, I know people who have stopped going - I am of the opinion that the make up of our fan base has changed dramatically - If the rebrand happened in the 80's -90's then it would not have happened
9. Has your opinion changed on the re-brand since it was announced and if so in what way and why?
Although the football has been good and Malky has been given the funds to build a very good side it will never change my opinion of public relations disaster by CCFC.

A difficult question the way you've put it.Competing at the highest level possible would be my answer to the first part.Having our identity taken away from us is a debatable point. If the club was moved to somewhere else and called something else I would class that as losing our identity. That aint gonna happen

Yes but I don't mind change

Can I just say that theyre not very balanced questions. Everyone is going to say pretty much the same thing and you wont get an acutal reason why the rebrand was accepted by the majority of the fan base.

. How long have you been supporting Cardiff City? Nearly 15 years 17th Febuary 1998
2. Is the premiership the be all and end all including having our identity taken from us? No far from it
3. Did/does our badge mean anything to you? :Yes
4. Does the bluebird mean much to you? Yes
5. What hurt the most, the loss of the badge or colour of the shirt? The colour as I could deal with having a rubbish badge
6. Did our colour mean anything to you? :ayatollah: Yes
7. Are you bothered about the identity? Yes
8. Has it split our fans? Yes
9. Has your opinion changed on the re-brand since it was announced and if so in what way and why? No, I dislike it but I understand that it was necassary for the club to be able to one day become debt free and finacially secure

Just a couple of observations on your answers:-
3. We have not lost our identity, we are still cardiff city, the bluebirds, and to be a franchise you would have to change your name and play outside your historiacal home, we have done neither.
4.How is the bluebird symbolic to our club?? you can't even see a real bluebird on our continent, the nickname was given to the club after a famous play was doing the rounds in cardiff, (about 1910) maybe it's a good job that abba were not around then, we may now be called the dancing queens.

Don't get me wrong, for over 40 years i have always, and will always, call us the bluebirds, our shirt colour will hopefully one day go back to blue, until then i'll reluctantly go along with this rebrand, it certainly beats having winding up orders served on the club every other month. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Why was it necessary? We could have done exactly the same as what were doing now just without the rebrand. :ayatollah:

Simply for the fact that we have been promised that the debt will be converted to equity. To me that is the most important part of the whole thing. We cant keep going on the way we have and even though there is nothing we can do about the debt as of now I want to see this club debt free and properly run for once.

jonbluebird wrote:Yes another re-branding thread but I would appreciate it if you could answer my questions as I am doing a project in uni about the re-branding at Cardiff City. I'm not looking for debates or people attacking each other on there views. It's an important project so sensible answers only please as this will be used in my project.

1) for 5 years
2) no premiership football isn't everything!
3) yes the badge did mean something!
4) it means alot! its our nickname and its our identity! its what people know us as!
5) loss of the colour!
6) yes, but the bluebird means more!
7) yes, no point being a club with no identity! every club has a nickname
8) yes it has split our fans! argument over argument, people have stopped going, people are accusing people who've accepted it plastics, yada yada!
9) yes my opinion has changed, i have accepted as times gone on as its getting less unusual that we're playing in red! badge is the main problem, as long as the bluebird stays on the kit in one way or another i'll be happy! if it was to go then id be very annoyed but would still watch cardiff city as its like a drug, you cant give up!

1. How long have you been supporting Cardiff City?
Im not sure really, since I was young, 15 years maybe a little longer.

2. Is the premiership the be all and end all including having our identity taken from us?

NO and an unfair and loaded question if ever i've seen one. I would want us to be in Blue with our current badge in any league.
Of course I want us to get promoted but that wouldn't change if we were in blue or red. I will always want the club to progress. The re brand for me was never about signing players it was about keeping the club and although they said it was never read or dead I think we would have struggled to survive.

3. Did/does our badge mean anything to you?
Depends which badge you mean I guess. Our current "beer mat" badge is horrid but certainly not the worse crest we have had.
But for me the only badge I have ever identified with is our real crest we had last season. Sadly times change and so do club badges.

4. Does the bluebird mean much to you?

Yes we are the Bluebirds, it will be a very sad day if its removed and I really hope it isn't. Or if it is removed that it is still placed somewhere on the shirt.

5. What hurt the most, the loss of the badge or colour of the shirt?
By far the colour of the shirt, we have had horrid badges in our recent history. It still doesn't feel right seeing us in red and im not sure i can ever accept it fully.

6. Did our colour mean anything to you?

Yes see above

7. Are you bothered about the identity?
Obviously but it doesnt go, it will always be our identity to me. No amount of money can remove our history, I was at those games, they are in my head and always will be.

8. Has it split our fans?
In that some Fans no longer feel they can go to games yes. For the mass majority I would say no, certainly not for me anyway. Some friends are more annoyed about the rebrand than others but we are friends its not going to change that. Nothing about my match day experience has changed other than the colour and badge I watch Cardiff City play in.

9. Has your opinion changed on the re-brand since it was announced and if so in what way and why?
No
