Loads of tinkers in canton tonight and it got me thinking.
Now I can't say I know anything about rugby, I'm not too sure of the rules for a start.
However when it comes to the 6 nations the county is gripped!! I don't think football can or ever will be bigger than football in Wales!! Even if Cardiff Swansea and Wrexham were in the champions league!!
When the rugby is on they come from under every stone to watch it!! Even the wives!!'
I think it's fair to say that club rugbys dead but the internationals are huge you can't dispute that

Wales Rugby vs Wales Football Internationally Barrie no question.
Club Football over Club Rugby there is only one winner.
We are in Canton tomorrow mate watching the City in the Sports Bar are you about ??

They play 4 or 5 home games a year. If we played 4 or 5 games a year then we would have all this hype. Cammaan!

They tide will slowly turn if Welsh football keeps growing the way it is.
I hate the Six Nations though, people from all sorts of cultures over Wales come out and pretend to like the sport, and only watch 5 games a year, all Wales Six Nations games, no clubs, no other internationals.
If they had a football Six Nations attendances would be pretty much the same, England, France and Italy would be sellouts while Scotland and Ireland would probably attract a fair few too.
It's that time of year now when I chuck my headphones in for a full day in college

Every country in the world play football, only about 20 play rugby. With that being the case, and Wales rugby always being in the top ten rankings, it's understandable why they have a large following. Imagine if Wales football ever got into the FIFA top ten.

Well how come if rugby is bigger there are about 4 times as many registered football players at all levels in wales than rugby players, and why more female football players are registered than male rugby players? How's it a big sport when nobody plays it?

I have life membership of one the founding member clubs of the WRU and so am sort of entitled (was club policy many years ago) for a ticket for every game Wales play home or abroad. I think in 30 years I've taken a ticket for maybe three or four games maximum. Its been so long since I did take a ticket that they no longer ask me if I want one, it goes into the "sponsors pool" i.e sold on to Mike someone or other, ex England player who has his own ticket touting business, errm hospitality company I mean. It has been alleged that this sort of thing goes on in most clubs with the full consent of the WRU who take a cut of the proceeds.
I have no real interest in the game, sometimes watch an International on the teledu and used to enjoy the away rugby trips as it was generally a good piss up and laugh; attendance at match was overlooked as why spoil a few days away
Overall Football is far bigger in Wales than rugby will ever be it's just that entire generations of welsh folk have been somehow brain washed into thinking this although having the "deep heat on your marital undercarriage rubbers" in position of influence, games teachers for example and media lurvies doesn't help. I think every BBC Wales head of sport has been a "finger up the bum to prove yer a man" egger since the job was invented.

The egg-chasing has never been bigger than football in Wales. Not in South Wales, not anywhere else in Wales. The egg-chasers only turn out about 3 or 4 times a year. Thousands more watch and play football every week. Egg-chasing is a mickey mouse sport, the sport of the Welsh establishment, public schools etc. The ones who turn out once or twice a year are only there for the booze, and a chance to show how 'really Welsh'
they are.

This thread is only going one way, if this was on the jacks board we know which way that would go lol

Wales rugby is causing more trouble than Football at Cardiff City.
Everyone goes down Cardiff on the piss watching the games in pubs and after the game which leads to drunk people and violence.

Exactly, try telling that to some of the half-witted people in SW who think it's a fantastic sport and everybody in Wales loves it. Athough they don't have a clue what's going on and have never been to a club rugby match in their lives.
I've often heard "Rugby is too expensive to go and watch. Below is the prices for Cardiff Blues vs Leinster (I think that's a pretty big match)
North Stand Terrace - £15.00
South Stand Terrace - £15.00
Central Seats - £20.00
Winged Seating - £18.00
^^Not exactly breaking the bank

Nothing to do with the rugby it's all about getting pissed before and after the match in the meantime Welsh rugby is dying on its feet there will be 72k in the Millenium Stadium tomorrow and tens of thousands more watching in the clubs and pubs. However where are all these fans when the Blue,Ospreys etc are playing
At Club level football is far bigger and the Blues can only dream of having the sort of crowds City enjoy if we get to the Premiership it will be another nail in the coffin of the Blues personally I enjoy both sports but City always comes first

i coach under 7-12 football local teams and more and more youngsters are turning to mini rugby instead so it is definatley competing more than the last few years with football if not in some areas over taking it

The IRB say on the website at the moment 79,800 people in wales play rugby, this includes males and females of all ages and those both registered and unregistered.
Fifa say that unregistered and registered are at 173,550. So nearly 100,000 more, or over 50% more people!
Fifa doesnt state if that includes women either. Although id say it probably does.
The figures probably supprise a few, but when you go around you still see alot more football posts than rugby, and still see a hell of alot more people playing sunday/amateur football than rugby aswell!
