LEEDS manager Neil Warnock has praised Cardiff City for perfecting the art of winning while not playing well.
Malky Mackay takes his men to Elland Road today sitting top of the table with a seven point gap over the chasing pack.
Leeds are in great form at home with six successive victories. And Warnock said he was relishing the chance to test that record against the table-toppers.
“I’m glad it’s Cardiff. No disrespect to the bottom of the table but they’ve won the last four away, they’re seven points clear and you can’t get anymore difficult,” said Warnock.
“We’re looking forward to it. But Cardiff have been consistent and the art they’ve got is of not playing well and winning.
“We’ve done that ourselves a few times of late which is a good sign in the Championship. You can’t play well every week.”
It was a busy final day in the January sales for Warnock on Thursday. Striker Luciano Becchio went to Norwich, but Wales international Steve Morison moved in the opposite direction.
Former Liverpool and England defender Stephen Warnock signed from Aston Villa and striker Mouhamadou Habib Habibou arrived from Belgian club SV Zulte Waregem on loan.
Leeds also had a bid for former Bluebird Chris Burke turned down by Birmingham.
“I think it gives us a lot more balance to the team. I think Leeds have come out of it very, very well,” added Warnock.
“With the swap deal in particular, we lacked a bit of pace up front and Steve’s got that. We’ve got a bit more pace and power now.
“He’s a player I’ve always rated very highly so I’m delighted about that.
“With Stephen Warnock, it’s not long ago he played for his country so I’m not going to get a better player than that.
“It’s nice to get lads who want to play for you. Both of them made it clear how keen they were and that does help.
“Habib’s just come in until the end of the season. He came for a week and we liked what we saw and it’s not financially a lot of money.
“He’s a big target man type and I liked the look of him. It gives us another option.
“We wanted two strikers before the window opened. Morison was top of my list as my main man.
“I didn’t expect Becchio to go there. I threw that carrot in when Norwich lost to Luton.
“I don’t want players here who don’t want to be here.
“We missed out on Chris Burke because we wouldn’t pay what Birmingham wanted. We thought that for a lad who’s out of contract in the summer we offered a substantial amount.”
