Welsh Rugby

Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:25 am

I've supported the City all my life and this will always be No 1.....

But..... Those that say they are happy to see Wales lose at rugby, unless they are not Welsh, are small minded, attention seeking, childish pricks!

Grow up and be proud of your country, and stop spouting such drivel, you just make yourselves sound like you have the intelligence of a 5 year old.

Well said! :ayatollah: we should want Wales to win at everything !

Re: Welsh Rugby

Unfortunately Kel it's the same both ways. I know lots if rugby fans that hate Cardiff City and welsh football. Also they see Cardiff getting promoted as a possible execution of the regional game.

The blues would not communicate with us when we wanted to come together to help each other. Reading and London Irish have a great communication. And London Irish are doing well out of Readings promotion now. The rugby fans want to see us fail as much as the jacks unfortunately. I love Wales and want them to win in all sports but the fact that they hate us so much gave me a bit of consultation yesterday. I think that's how most Cardiff fans felt yesterday. I don't think they hate the country just the rugby.

Leon, it is a bit different in my opinion, Cardiff is a regional/city team and people with have different feelings towards us. Wales is our country....

I never go out of my way to look for the regional rugby results but, if I catch the results I hope the Welsh regions do well.

I think that the 6 nations support is an absolute embarrassment and nothing to do with support for the sport itself.

In saying that, I always want Wales to win and am very proud when they do....

The first part is up to him, the last part shows him up for a prick as well. Maybe not the CCFC part, although I struggle to understand why he wouldn't want us to do well but, again, the Wales football?!?

I was obviously brought up with different values, and am pleased my parents appear to have given me the right ones ;)

Not really bothered if they win or lose to be honest, dont care if they lose, if they win well done?

Doesn't make people childish and small minded, every one to their own.

Re: Welsh Rugby

Just because I'm Welsh, why do I have to support Wales in every sport?

I have English friends who like to see England beaten in football, because it shuts their media up and not banging on about football all the time - I'm the same - I love it when Wales lose at the egg, for similar reasons.

However, my hatred of the egg goes much deeper than that - it was rammed down my throat at school in the 70's and nothing short of fascist style bullying was done by a successsion of School games teachers to attempt to humiliate anyone who supported Soccer (as they liked to call it) and not Rugby. You needed to be pretty strong to stand up to them, and it was from that time on that I took delight in every time the egg lost - the fact they could never beat New Zealand was hilarious  They still haven't beaten them for almost 60 years, and the only other decent team in that decade (South Africa) were not allowed to play  So much for the glory days of the 70's for Welsh Rugby ;)

I appreciate its not as bad today (and those who cannot remember the 70's may not understand where this hatred comes from), but for me, it will be a life long hatred, although I can be objective enough to have a lot of time for individuals (like Warburton, who seems a tidy chap), but I would love to see the sport die in Wales. :D

I support Wales in every other sport, but will never support them in Rugby. That's my choice, and I fully accept the right of others to make a different choice, as I wouldn't want to force others to follow my views, but all I ask for is the right to be able to hold my own views, which the op seems to oppose.

It was doubly bad for me at School though, as not only was Rugby treated like a holy relic, but it was also a School with those who did like football being mostly Jack fans - funnily enough, I ended up having some rapport with the Jacks there, as we were both subjected to the bullying I've outlined above from the eggers - To this day, the egg losing always makes me happier than the Jacks losing - yesterday was an absolute red letter day though ;) :ayatollah: :malky:

At least no Grand Slam or Triple Crown for them this year     :ayatollah: :malky:

I was also in school in the 70's, and had very much the same experiences you describe.

Is rugby my chosen sport, no, but how is that fault of the Welsh rugby team.

Just cannot get my head around this, and yes I will support Wales in every sport they compete in. Why? Because I'm Welsh.....

I really have difficulty thinking that even though people say these things, that they are actually 'truthfully' thinking it as well.

I am just so proud to be Welsh and support everything that is Welsh :)

I don't hate the Welsh Rugby team, just the Rugby establishment and the way over decades they've tried to ram the sport down our throats - but as I said earlier, I have some time for some of the individual players.

I suppose it's easier for me as I think of myself as more of an internationalist than a nationalist, although I do generally tend to support the Celtic nations in most sports, apart from Rugby, where I've always had a soft spot for the English team, probably because it was hilarious to see the reaction of the Rugby fascists I've spoken of before when England started to become good in the 1980's

Mind, perhaps I don't really, as I do remember wearing an Australian shirt to the National Hockey Stadium in Milton Keynes the day England won the World Cup in 2003, as we were playing Milton Keynes Dons there - the only time I think I've ever seen us play in orange (shame Australia lost, as I remember the MK Dons fans singing "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" throughout the game - at least we won 1-0 :ayatollah: )

By the way, I can assure you, this isn't just me saying it, I really do believe these things ;)

Re: Welsh Rugby

This reminds me of my own schooldays in the 1960s, :old: when i went to high school there were boys from 4 different football playing schools we were forced to play rugby. When we asked if we can play football the teachers had a melt down .So we didnt turn up with any kit the next games lessons they soon got the message that we wanted to play football. In the end they let us play football one week rugby the next.In time the bigger slower lads played for the school rugby team but most of us played football whenever we could.

Re: Welsh Rugby

Sun Feb 03, 2013 2:47 pm

Disagree with you there Keli.
Growing up in school we were forced to play Rugby, I was amazing at it even tho I hated it. Playing football we were called Fairies and Poofs. Our P.E Teacher was one of these 'Rugby is a mans game and everyone should play it over Football' type of teachers.

The Media years ago treated us Football fans like Dirt and still do, But the eggers could do no wrong. We were the outcasts of Wales choosinging football over Rugby.

6 Nations is a big piss up for people who don't get out to the Capital much if you ask me. A few boys in work LOVE Rugby for 6 games a year, Do they follow Club Rugby? Na, They don't. But football is still for poofs.

Rugbys been shoved down our throats for so long but now Football has finally come out on top in South Wales. Seeing Wales lose is a Smack in the Face to all the overweight, old fashioned eggers for 6 games only everywhere.

And I love it. :laughing5:

Re: Welsh Rugby

Cardiff City have always, and will always be my number one love in life, but i can never understand how people take satisfaction out of wales losing at any sport, (in most cases it's rugby) i know in the past that the welsh media have'nt given football/Cardiff City too much air time but that is hopefully about to change, (with our promotion) you'll find that most rugby players like football and will go to city games, especially if we make the promised land, also i think these peoples attitudes (wales losing) would change if they lived away from wales like myself. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I also went to egg chasing schoool in the 60's and remember their "national sport" crap that has been rammed down our throats ever since.

We weren't even allowed to play the ACTUAL NATIONAL SPORT of football in OUR dinner time break

I will NEVER want Wales egg chasers to win a single game, and I still hope they finish bottom of the group below Italy.

I will support any other Wales sports, but don't ever ask me to support Wales egg crap. I leave that to Radio EGG and Western Egg

Re: Welsh Rugby

I'm only 28 and even when I was in school we were forced to play rugby and very rarely did we play football.

I can't say I want the welsh rugby team to lose but I have no interest either way really. I was in the pub to meet my mates for the game but didnt really watch the game and couldn't tell you the score.

Can anyone ever explain to me the relevance of so many girls wearing pink cowboy hats to the pub on rugby day?

Why do a lot of people from Wales have the mentality that because we're Welsh we've got to like Welsh rugby and that we've got to support Wales in every single sport? f**k off I couldn't give a shit if Wales win or lose in anything unless it's football.

Re: Welsh Rugby

I'd rather Wales to win at rugby rather than lose, but I'm not too arsed either way tbh

On a slight tangent, I know of a few welsh people who support Wales at rugby and England at football. Now THAT I don't understand

Re: Welsh Rugby

Welsh rugby is the symbol of Welsh nationalism which I despise. It is a tool used by the welsh nazis to slag off England at every opportunity, it's nothing short of racism the bullshit I hear screamed during Wales - England matches. This is why I love it when the English do Wales over in the rugby.

You see, Welsh rugby has done untold damage to football in South Wales, the media up until only a few years ago used to blast Welsh football fans for everything. It's only now that Swansea and Cardiff are doing well are the Welsh media jumping on the football bandwagon they sought to destroy.

If any of you had the misfortune of being Cardiff city center last night I guarentee you would have seen more violent and yobbish behaviour than any Cardiff game in the past 5 years. Welsh rugby is dying and I for one am happy.

Re: Welsh Rugby

Mon Feb 04, 2013 12:15 am

I do despise rugby mainly because of the so called "supporters". Like others have said these people haven't a clue about the sport, don't associate themselves with any clubs, but come out in their droves with pikey welsh tops on for 5 or so games a year.

These are usually the people who slag off football during this time, with the age-old better sport debate which is farcical in its self. Obviously we know there is no contest, but every year i find my self on the recieving end of these idiotic cliche comments "It's a harder sport, footballers are faggots" "They get paid way too much money" and my favourite "We get like 70,000 attendance, you get like 20,000 which shows it's better and more popular than football"

I for one couldn't care less about the sport it's self. I think a lot of it is jealousy as football is undisputedly the "better" sport in every way. But i just cannot stand these so called fans, and that's why i hate rugby as a whole

Re: Welsh Rugby

City will always come first, always said it club first country second.

I want Wales to win but what does piss me off big time are the BBC Wales adverts promoting the six nations. I can't stand those ads and I know it does turn a lot of people against rugby.
