CAN WE DO IT THIS TIME?

Mon Dec 14, 2009 8:39 am

How can a team change so much from looking like gutless/clueless in just over a week to promotion candidates?
I am dumb struck, are they capable of going all the way this time?

not without strengthening in January Annis. We are paper thin mate. :(

A couple of injuries yesterday to add to our troubles too.

Yep, I would say we need at least that too. Seems our two centre-backs have come good of late. Also, the whole team were putting their bodies on the line yesterday, we looked like a team that were up for the fight.
More of the same please City. :ayatollah:

Where would you strengthen then? It's obvious we need 2 midfielders, quality ones! I would see if there was a central defender with pace available, we look solid aerial, but lack pace, any ball behind us & the defenders struggle for pace. A back up for Bothroyd, to push him, hes carrying injuries & at some point he will be out for a couple of weeks.Depending on whitts & kelvins injuries, we may also need to get another wide man.

With all this talk about a take over I just feel the proof in the eating will come in January. That is we get 4 new players and keep what we have.

Even with or without investment has Jones got what it takes to finish the job. I so want him to prove me or us wrong.

The effort being put in by the players seems so much better.

It would be nice to strengthen all areas in Jan but assuming that we will be limited in what we can do I would prioritise as follows -

Leave the defence. We may have enough cover here.

Leave the strikeforce – McCorrmack, Etuhu, Bothroyd, Chopra should get us goals when backed by Whits and Burke

Midfield – Use any cash we’ve got to sort it out. Central midfield first then possibly another wide player to provide competition .

Based on recent performances if we can sort out the centre of midfield with real quality then we’ve got a chance of doing it.

A keeper for 2 reasons. I think we are lacking domination of the box from corners and free kicks and it's quite
obvious our defenders are either incapable of attacking the ball or they hide! so a keeper that tidies that up.
If we had serious cover and competition for that position, I would try the alternative, but unfortunately the
keepers we have, do not have that capability.

So, for me:-

1 keeper
1 central defender (or two)
2 midfielders (1 to win the ball like Kav or Billy Ronson for example and 1 to distribute, I could name plenty)
1 centre forward ( He would need to be 7 feet tall because Jones' tactics of thumping the ball long and high)

A NEW MANAGER - bring on olly!

Dave Jones can you hold your nerve?

Re: CAN WE DO IT THIS TIME?

we have to do it this time! top trip yesterday courtesy of Dibs tours.

Ok boroughs home form is rubbish but we still had to get the result which we did , winning at places like WBA & borough should get us into the to six but if we can strengthen the centre midfield and get a target man then we will be chasing one of the top two spots

apart from Burke, Marshall is a big infuence at the moment if we had him last year who knows!

Guaranteed a laugh on Dibs trips.
We need to keep burke no matter what.

Annis, you make no secret of the fact that you are not a Dave Jones fan, whilst I may not agree with you I would like to know who you would replace him with in reality. Obviously that rules out people like capello, mourinho etc but in reality who would you like to see get the job?

You cant be serious we are third in the league and you want to sack the manager. We have just had the best week ever, two great away wins against recent premier teams , people like you will never be happy  . On your point about the goalie, i was one of Marshalls biggest critics but he is starting to prove me wrong, he has obviously been working on his command of the box with the goalie coach, he is one to stick with without a doubt, and he coulkd prove to be the best goalie we have had and another Dave Jones success :ayatollah:

If we can strengthen the squad in January then we are more than capable of a top 6 finish, also if we get some quality players in and improve our midfield then i feel we could if things go our way finish 2nd. :ayatollah:

Surely there's been a name or two thrown around the board room now eh? Go on, someone spill ;)

If we're not prepared to go straight in come January 1st instead of sitting around then God knows what will happen.

Joninian Your right I dont like him, as every season he says this is the best team I have ever had, yet this is his fifth season and up to now we still havent made the play offs,if he is unhappy with his budget he should speak out. He falls at the final hurdle.
In my opinion he is a nearly man, who never quite gets there, 1 promotion in his last 12 years and he nearly fucked that up ask Wolves fans.
When we are on a run its amazing but when things go bad they sometimes get out of control and he has no plan B. 5 wins out 89 games when we have gone 1 nil down int the last 5 yrs lol.
He has no passion for Derby games.
I could go on and on, but just my opinion.

He has to stay now for now, but if we fail this season, then no more, if he succeeds I will eat humble pie.

Darren Fergusson for me,up and coming and ambitious, DJ shows none of that.
I would rather have Warnock than Dave Jones.
Just my opinions, I respect everyone elses.

disagree Annis about Ferguson. I dont think ccfc is a place for an undecorated manager with an empty CV. he's only 37 and lacks experience - when the going got tough - contract was terminated at peterborough on a mutual basis. Dave Jones will do a good job (or better than he is now) with a decent budget and no money problems. IF this take over happens - i think Jones will take us to the premiership - He has done well over the last 5yrs considering our circumstances.

Merlin,
I see him as a future top manager, he got 2 promotions in his first 2 seasons, he asked for money in the Championship, They said no as they only average 8,000. Barry Fry is prob like Sam a hard and mad man to work with.

Darren Fergusson for me,up and coming and ambitious, DJ shows none of that.

All I am saying is that I have faith in every one of them this season. If they fail this season then I will ask for changes to be made. Let's not underestimate how hard this division has become to get out of. More teams go down than they go up (as in league positions, obviously three go up and three go down in terms of promotion and relegation).

Until the start of June every one of our team has my unwaivered support. Even if we reach the darkest day I will support them. Unconditional support.
