MALKY Mackay believes Cardiff City fans can roar their team towards promotion, saying: “You have been fabulous – now we can press on together.”
More than 25,000 spectators will watch Cardiff City’s Championship home clash with Severnside rivals Bristol City on Saturday and manager Mackay is overjoyed.
He expressed his affection for Bluebirds fans on Valentine’s Day, saying: “Wow! Our fans never cease to amaze me.
“We have nine Championship home matches left and it would be fantastic if we hit that mark in each and every one.
“The noise that many fans create is a joy for home players. Bluebirds supporters create a special atmosphere at our stadium and that can make visiting teams tentative.
“The players appreciate that home support – and the links between team and fans which will drive us on.”
Cardiff have attracted a total 308,000 spectators over the first 14 home games this season at an average of 22,000-plus.
The biggest turn-out was 26,098 for the win against Palace and now Mackay wants to see those numbers climb as his team close in on their dream.
Cardiff stand top of the Championship as they prepare for two home matches in four days, against Bristol City on Saturday (1pm) and Brighton next Tuesday (7.45pm).
The Bluebirds have secured a remarkable 37 League points from a possible 42 at home, setting a club record 10 successive victories to fire up their promotion challenge.
Now Mackay and his players have 16 Championship fixtures left in their quest for automatic promotion and the remaining home matches are against Bristol City this Saturday and Brighton next Tuesday followed by Derby County, Barnsley, Blackburn, Leicester, Nottingham Forest, Charlton and Bolton.
The club’s ticketing policy means that prices are far lower the earlier they are booked. Full details from the Cardiff City Stadium offices on 0845 345 1400 or via the club’s official website at cardiffcityfc.co.uk
