A Cardiff city centre pub was forced to close after fans left a trail of destruction before the Cardiff City v Bristol City game this lunchtime.
Police led a group of fans to safety when trouble flared at the Great Western Wetherspoon pub, Saint Mary Street just before midday.

Tables and chairs were left overturned at the pub after rowdy fans, said to be Bristol City supporters, started trouble in what police are describing as an "incident."
Further reports on Twitter say football fans have been boasting about leaving a trail of wreckage behind. Other comments suggest there has been a riot and flares let off. 






The Great Western has since confirmed on Twitter that they were forced to close at lunchtime following the damage done to the pub.
Police have denied reports of a riot but declined to comment on exactly what took place other than to say they had acted to stop further trouble.
South Wales Police's control supervisor Mark Oliver confirmed that police had been called to the pub just before midday.
He said: "There was not a riot. We were assisting groups of fans. One of these groups was led through the pub after an incident."
Mark Keohane said on Twitter: "Well, the Spoons in Cardiff has been left in a bit of a state!"
Carly added: "Cardiff has been taken over by Bristol City fans!! Police everywhere."
An employee at the Great Western declined to say what had happened at the pub.

However on Twitter a notice was posted at 2pm today saying: "You may have heard about the damage done to our pub, we are piecing things together and clearing up. Will open again soon."

They seem pretty damning of their idiots, both the fans and their poor team

Big shame, it was a big opportunity for their fans today, to show a statement to the football league and the police they dont require restrictions. Well done Bristol City, hope you enjoy more bubble games in the future.

After the game I went for a hotdog by the bus station. Bristol fans came out of the ground and were held by the edge of the road by the police. The bristol fans then were held by the police and it started to kick off. Think a bottle was thrown and also saw a young lad covered in blood. I was stood by the hotdog van with about 5 cardiff fans behind me waiting for the fans to walk past. They then stopped and attempted to get at us. A couple of bristol fans had a baton. They seemed so brave attempting to attack us behind about 5 policemen.
