Tan Has Missed A Trick!

Tue Feb 19, 2013 11:51 am

They always say that a businessman should understand the climate of the business he is investing in. Football is no different. Those that are investing millions in football should understand the environment they are investing that money into.

The best thing possible that Vincent Tan could have done tonight was hand out blue scarves. What a gesture that would have been. He would have really changed the spirit of the club and the atmosphere tonight would have been electric.

He could then have furthered this by stating next season we would be playing in a compromise strip that has blue and red on it (which doesn't make us look like Crystal Palace!).

I am not stupid, I know this man has our club by the balls and he can essentially do whatever he wants with his money. However, it is our club and if he was a wise man he would look to maximise the potential of our club by getting us on board.... all of us. Leaving no man behind.

My journey supporting Cardiff City started in the old bottom division and it would be quite poetic to finish it with us in the Premiership. I hope I get to celebrate that with those that were there with me in the bottom division because it feels slightly less joyous without the likes of my brother and some of my mates experiencing it with me.

This is our club Vincent Tan. You ultimately possess all the cards. However, if you want us... all of us... then you could have a very strong ally. Be a wise man and make the right decisions to maximise your venture. :ayatollah:

Tan is a hard man who has made his money by most likely going on his own instincts.

I just have a feeling Tan is treating the club as future icon for Malaysia by making us a stable premier club with as much Malaysian culture on show. What a great way of doing this by getting a football club into the top league in the world.

As a businessman I guess he will look at the facts.

Record attendance this season
Red strip selling well
Season tickets for next season will be 20k (a club record)

He will also be realistic.

Record attendance yes but that's only because we are doing well and would have achieved this in blue.

Red strip selling well (above expectations) but not as well as if it was blue.

Season tickets will be a record as we will be in the premier but how much of a record is it under those circumstances. He most likely has been told an extra 15,000 but yey we have not sold out the extra 1,500 for general sale which we should have done.

Yes but no doubt all of that was part of his plan, invest in players, get bigger grounds, better ST sales etc etc

All this despite the rebrand IMO, his plan has worked better than I expected if I'm honest.

Not slagging you off Zabier but I'm having difficulty following the logic of the above. Tan has a plan which revolves around playing in red, so handing out blue scarfs would seem daft if I'm absolutely honest.

VT is quite obviously not interested in getting 'us' on borad as he will never make any money out of Welsh based Cardiff City fans as there is not enough of us, even if we do get 20,000 season ticket holders next season.

His vision is aimed fairly and squarely at the Far East and it would help his plan no end if he could get us all wearing red, not blue. In that case handing out red scarfs is the only option from his prespective.

TBH Ian I think you have missed the whole point of Tan's Plan. Yes you are absolutely right we would have sold more blue tops than red and with this squad we would be top of the league even if we were playing in blue.

But it is NOT us (South Wales based CCFC fans) he is aiming to make money from, it's the Far East where red is as popular as blue is with us. I don't like playing in red and would much prefer blue, but the harsh truth is I'm not paying the bills and Tan is.

Whether it's a 'vision' or a 'plan' is really imaterial and I wish posters would stop being so petty as its the very same thing.
Ian considering the tsunami of rage that hit this club last May when the rebrand was first announced I think VT deserves massive credit for making such a success of it.

To me that proves he is a man we should all take notice of.

Where has the rebrand been such a success?

I don't see a wave of red across all 4 stands.

Exactly!

I would say Tan knows exactly what environment he is operating in, it’s a shame many of our fans just don’t get it – or even refuse to accept that we need to generate other income streams.

I believe most of us do get it, red is more prominent out in the Far East. This is the danger of us totally losing our identity here back home.

The success has been on the pitch, the investment on players wouldn't have happened without the rebrand.

Your making a host of assumptions with no evidence.

We sold a record amount of jerseys this year, the red jersey. What makes you suggest we would have sold even more if it was blue? We have a blue away kit available people could've purchased but chose red.

The season tickets haven't sold out because the club haven't been advertising that it is available to everyone. You only find that information on forums and the club website.

And as for tan missing a trick as the original post suggests. He hasn't. Tan wants this club to be red. What sort of message would it be sending out if he gave blue scarves away? He wants blue out, red in. Simple not half and half.

We’ve recently changed our identity more than just the kit colour though. Against the entire football league Cardiff City is winning accolades for “Family Club of the Year” and visitor supporter’s experience.

Amongst the general public, our identity is probably improving under Tan.

I get your point, but the whole club has changed since TG and Tan came in - and mostly for the better. There doesn't need to be the level of anger shown to Tan as we are seeing lately.

Forget the rebrand. The hard truth is. The very second the Club released the statement that Sam
Hammam would NOT be coming back, and that the Club would be employing forensic accountants
to investigate exactly what happened here... That was the LAST time Vincent Tan was given a fair
crack of the whip (on message boards) Malaysian flag waving stopped and the "Operation hate Tan" began....

When the story that he'd asked if we could play in Red home and away if he paid off the League
came out it convinced me of that

You don't half exaggerate Dave.

I started to doubt Tan over the forsenic accountant. The rebrand was the final straw that lost all trust in him.

This was nothing to do with Sam but the actions of Tan.

Not exaggerating anything. If somebody can give me a valid reason why he stopped getting
any credit last season then I'm all ears?

If your saying that when you heard they were employing Forensic accountants to investigate
Langstone, you lost faith in Tan. Pray tell why? What on earth is wrong (in principle) with a
man who has just come into the Club ensuring that everything regarding the Historic debt
he is trying to honour is above board. Given that a High Court Judge implied the water was
a bit 'muddy'... he'd have been reckless not to, surely? Why should he keep it a secret. What
exactly did you find unprofessional about the Club making a statement about it????

The Club had nothing to hide.

So WHY? Why did you decide Tan was a wanker after that?

Re: Tan Has Missed A Trick!

Wed Feb 20, 2013 9:47 am

Just because I see the identity of my football club as more important than Premiership glory that makes me stupid? I think you'll find it's a perception and opinion concept rather than an intelligence issue.

I hear all these comments about generating revenue streams from abroad etc and I understand. Hell, if someone had said to me three seasons ago that we would be in this position now then I'd have gone with it. However, I can only go with how I feel and, to me, this all feels wrong.

Regarding the comments questioning why would he hand out blue scarves when we play in red? Well, why would he keep seats blue in the stadium despite the planned red re-brand? It's all about gestures and keeping fans on side. Public relations.

Last night showed that the majority have no issue with the red colour change. I will only question my own commitments to a new season ticket if the club name, location or presence of the bluebird on the badge change. That doesn't mean I can sit back and be happy with the red. I'll continue to say we should be blue again. I don't care about all these "well we started off as Riverside FC in different colours" etc. I wasn't alive then. We've always been blue to me. We've always been the Bluebirds to me.

If you want to be happy with the red colour change then that's not an issue to me. Football and supporting a club has different values to everyone. I will be very pissed off though the day someone tells me I am wrong for wanting us back in blue.
