A forum for all things Cardiff City

I thought this was quite an interesting exchange of views

on the re-brand from a disillusioned Cardiff supporter(supposedly, as it could of course be a mischievous Jack!) and a Liverpool supporter on the BBC website. I thought it quite interesting to firstly hear another clubs' fans view and secondly that he put very reasonable answers forward.

Cardiff Supporter- No other club has switched their entire historical identity (kit, badge, nickname) to expressly appeal to some imagined foreign market, sported another country's name on their shirts, flown another country's flag prominently all over their ground and kow-towed to the tyrannical owner's every whim.
Cardiff City don't exist in any recognisable, meaningful way, it's Vincent Tan

Liverpool Supporter
Both Barcelona and PSG have 'Qatar' on their shirts, so Cardiff are not the only ones.
I also fail to see how the foreign market is 'imagined'. Also, while I can accept such a change is quite dramatic, the red dragon was always part of the logo and the red shirt were the away kit. So it isn't the identity change you are making it out to be

That's why I agree with the Liverpool Fan. Football is a business without a doubt, without the global revenue from marketing and other global projects, and help attract financial muscle from other parts of the world, Barcelona and Real Madrid would have disappeared years ago, that's a fact. Yes the two clubs mentioned are world names and massive clubs in European and world football. but without the constant marketing of countries with billions of fans. they wouldn't be where they are today without penny pinching from Asia, America or China.

I think every CCFC fan will agree, TAN could have and should have done things differently, he should have consulted the fans and organized a forum or a simple fans vote to test the water. But, he didn't and I think deep down he knows this.

But - Tan also has the experience in the above said countries and I personally think the club as a whole is a lot more professional and he knows what he is doing. Tan owns the McDonalds franchise in Malaysia, he also has recently developed the Biggest Shopping Center in the world in China, (£35b). The Berjeya group is massive and even looking at the website shows you the wealth and business acumen he brings to a football club.

To think that out club CCFC, about 10 years ago was playing 3rd tier football in front of a very derelict stadium, goes to show how far we have come. Yes Sam was part of that, yes Sam brought a sense of direction. But our old forum was called the 'Sleeping Giant' and to be fair, Tan has taken advantage of that.

Think about it a little, sorry to rant on... In the last accounts he has personally (ok a loan @ 7%) £53 million and rising by about £1m per month. If he settled the debt as noted in the last accounts and wiped the slate clean, that will cost him what is it about £85m. He will own outright, a club trading in the best league in the world with massive global and outrageous TV revenues. Own a stadium worth in excess of £45m, and with easy plans to expand from 28k to 60k. Own a very decent and profitable squad and a rapidly expanding youth and academy system. All for what £85m?? these figures may not be spot on but Jesus, you couldn't buy Wigan for less?

I just think we need to get behind CCFC, as is until things change anyway. Lets just enjoy the ride, ok if you don't like the re-brand, it don't mean the club don't need your support and your fantastic loyalty. Its still CCFC, as Ive said before its choice.

Lets live and enjoy the dream, I'm sure we all agree its far better than when we were hrs from admin!!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

There are 92 teams in the football league. Only one has rebranded since...?
People have to go back to Leeds in the 60s to justify that this thing is normal.

Don't believe it when somebody tells you this was the only way to success.
