Yes it was Jeff Richards and the bloke he got hold of was dean from Penrhys who didi a stint in nick for the offence, they became good mates after though, mad days.

the fella throwing away the coppers helmet is a mate of mine

he did a year behind the door as they say , for that

he was convicted of riot and affray

but the police lied through their teeth about him to convict him , he would come down to one or two games a year , the police said he was a " known face " and was regularly cuasing trouble at away games ..total rubbish ..he has never been away with cardiff in his life

I rem it well, I know all those faces, about 200 of us Sat in the Grandstand that day and could see some trouble, not until I got home and saw it on the BBC News, did I realise what had happened.

What actually started the assault on the coppers then?

a city fan invaded the pitch and ran towards the swansea fans in the grange

both groups moved toward each other

there were just a few coppers in the corner between bob bank and grange

they got a few boots up the arse

one fella was on the floor , my mate went to pick him up and then he was grabbed around the neck

he broke free and then was jumped on by a few coppers

he was on leave from the army and " resisted arrest " as they say

you can see him at the end of that video throwing the coppers helmet away


they charged him with assault police, affray , resisting arrest


it was initially riot I think , but I think that was dropped

as I said the police told bare face lies to con the jury ..he was guilty of resisiting arrest and throwing away the coppers helmet but because there was so much trouble that day he and a few others copped it , if you will pardon the expression

he served time with a few others , one being a lad from porthcawl , who together with his brother has been a city fan for years

they were both fitted up really , a year in prison was well over the top , but as I said the police lost control that day and wanted revenge

my mate was rarely down the city games...few times a season when on leave ...he certainly wasnt a " hardcore hooligan " which is what helped convict him

a year behind bars for that yet recently a paedo was convicted in cardiff and got community service.

my mate , the brother from porthcawl and another fella all served about 9 months if I remember ..they were all given two years

I am not defending what happened but in my opinion my mate in particular was fitted up

it made us shrug our shoulders when the police said he was a hard core well known hooligan ..he hardly ever went to watch city because of his services job ..total lies in court by the police during the trial

and the jury and courts took a very dim view of football related trouble in those days
