i'm amazed by that story, any man comes into my house threatening my Family with a knife is game for any retribution in my opinion.

should be like the USA if you catch a burglar in yr home you can shoot him.
Its typical of this government to protect the criminal and punish the victim.
MY only hope is that the judge who sentanced this inocent man gets butt fucked by some big mean burglar one day .

If somebody breaks into your house and threatens your family with knives and you manage to corner one of them then surely you should just help him put all of your money and belongings into his getaway car and wish them a safe journey!!!

I'm fed up of this country and things like this that seem to happen on a more frequent basis. I've heard that the police numbers, budgets and resources are being cut which is only going to make it easier for you to get robbed in the first place. Probably down a road where the street lamps have gone out early due to budget cuts

The law is too black and white. I can understand why they need to be wary about forced entry and the suitable retaliation. If the law was that if someone enters your house without your permission you could do anything to them then murder cases would rocket because people would use it as an excuse.
However, common sense needs to be used more often and it's not. Ok, so maybe chasing the guy and giving him brain damage is quite extreme but considering what the thief did, he can't really be sympathised with. Given the circumstances if I was the judge I would have given the attacker community service (just to show violence isn't condoned but given the circumstances jail wasn't warranted) and then handed the thief a sentence for breaking, entering and all the other aggrevated sentences such as threatening behaviour etc.
Until the legal system starts setting examples then crime will just get worse because criminals know the law is on their side. Which is abysmal.
Here's an interesting one. Basically there's this guy who's been making my missus feel uncomfortable for a while now. Well, he's stopped now but he was like this. He'd send her messages on the internet and texts with some weird stuff on it. Then he'd confront her on nights out and would annoy her. I begged her to let me do something but she said I'd just get into trouble. So I reluctantly left it.
Anyway, not long ago I heard he'd assaulted another guy's girlfriend. I didn't know this boyfriend but he was a bit of a nutter apparently. When this boyfriend heard about this he hunted this guy down and planned to slash his face. However, he was informed that any retaliation would result in serious consequences, almost certainly jail time, because it was pre-meditated. HOWEVER, when he asked if anything could be done by the legal system against the guy for attacking his girlfriend they said no because there was a lack of evidence. So this guy has now got off scott free for smashing a girl. What a disgrace.

these sort of daft sentences for decent people has gone on for years
its certainly not this government that has brought it about
the law can be an ass, as the saying goes, and it has always been that way
the judge should have given the bloke a slap on the wrist for going over the top ( although I would have said well done !!) but to send him to prison for giving a burglar and thug a good beating is ridiculous
already this mr hussain fella has had loads of support for what he did , I think anyone would have done the same to someone who hurt their family

I was outraged by the headline like most people, but when examining the details it's not so black and white. There's a huge difference between defending yourself and 3 people merciously beating some one defenceless to the point of brain damage (even if it is an intruder). I'm no liberal good doer, I've no problem in defending yourself using reasonable force, but for 3 people to beat someone to the point of brain damage with bats and pole means that these people's morals are no better than the intruder. These people gave chase after the threat had gone, then caught and beat him merciously when defenceless, that can't be right either. The guy has not walked away scot free, he's brain damaged for life.
