A forum for all things Cardiff City

Got fed up of all the rumours and scaremongering, so I thought I'd go straight to the top. Rang the Football League finance department, spoke to a nice chap and I explained our concerns and enquired if we were under a League transfer embargo, he asked me to hold the line for a minute, when he came back on, he sounded a bit flustered and said it was awkward and he wasn't at liberty to tell me anything, and that I would have to speak to the club, but the sudden change in the tone of his voice and his reply certainly spooked me.
Well if I wasn't concerned before, I certainly am now, saying that the Trust and Vince are convinced everything is OK, so perhaps I'm being scared for no reason, but as I see it at present if this Dato investment doesn't come in, and we can't honour our tax liabilities, then the embargo will be the least of our worries, and even though Peter Ridsdale as told us that if we go into admin then all of us who have forked out 8 months earlier than the season starts, we will simply be classed as creditors, that's a lot of responsibility falling on our trust if it goes pear shaped I hope they know more than us and are 100% sure.

I don't think you should be worried. I don't think that information like this would be given out to any ordinary member of the public just phoning up on the off chance of finding out the financial details of any club in the league.

Supporters do not have to be notifed, you would be better off talking to someone at the FAW as well as you may get a bit more joy closer to home. Remember all transfers involving Welsh Clubs have to go through the FAW for international clearance. The FL would have obviously informed the FAW .
I note you state about supporters and trusts getting involved and encouraging others that every thing is fine and no doubt as read many times on here trying to encourage the sale of season tickets . Thats a very precarious position to be in and would advise you to advise them , as they could be held responsible by other supporters if they were to become creditiors of the Company.
If they are to and feel the need to, then be honest as why the reason you encourage the sale, ie to try and help save your football club from administration/liquidation rather than buy them now for extra discount attitude. Has Ridsdale yet called the supporters to arms? It is one of his traits for sure. It was exactly the same at his previous clubs. My word to them is be very careful.

I am the chairman of the supporters Trust and you will not find any supporters Trust statement "encouraging others that every thing is fine and no doubt as read many times on here trying to encourage the sale of season tickets"
When there is a statement to be made then it will be on the trust website.
I make my own observations but only after careful consideration to what I say because I know some fans will mix my personal views with those of the Trust.... any staement the trust make is talked through by the Trust board and released through the trust press officer.
I will PERSONALLY always encourage Cardiff fans to support the club and ALWAYS encourage them to buy season tickets.
TNT I do not know who you are but you have said that you have connections in football, Sullivan for instance...then it should be quite simple for you to find out if Cardiff City have a transfer embaego on them.
I am a Football federation national council member and we hear of these embargoes very quickly and nothing has come through about Cardiff, I have contacted quite a few people who would know and still no one has come back and said that agents/clubs have been warned away fron our club due to an embargo...so we are left with a rumour and a phone call from a messageboard member to a guy in the finance dept of the football league who was told he can't devulge this info?????
What do you suggest the supporters groups do now on this matter?
Attack the club, encourage fans not to buy season tickets, organise boycotts of our home games? based on what?
rumours and speculation
Most fans are happy, we are 3rd on the league etc etc...they would not support action against the club, Ridsdale etc on the basis of rumours...
Now lets also get something straight here...I am a Cardiff fan, have been since 1968, my only interest is the club and its supporters...I have no motives other than to see the fans get what they deserve and the club being there for the fans. You cannot even talk about Vince he is the fans champion if you ask me...he does the work of many to help our supporters and has the utmost respect of most fans.
I am very unhappy with some of the things that have happened at our club during the last 40 years but we are where we are....we are fans and if something actually does happen that puts our club in jeopody then we all need to stand together as one group...that will be difficult at our club because so many fans have different views and rifts are evident amongst the fans...FFS we even have one messageboard trying to compete with another...there is no need...this is a great new board for the fans,an alternative to the other two boards...I love this board because it is another way we can talk about the football club..there are less people on here but less silly topics too.
Chairmen come and chairmen go but the fans will always be here.
TNT you have made some interesting posts that add to the debate and that is good, long may it continue.
Tue Dec 15, 2009 3:35 pm
I think reading between TNT'S lines, that what he his saying that as long as the people from the trust and supporters club know the facts are genuine, then there is no problem. But being as these groups are the link to our chairman, there is one hell of a responsibility and whilst some on here may have personal grudges against the chairman and bearing in mind his track record, not least forgetting his personal predicament with the tax people regarding his bankrupt company/agency thing, other fans may simply be genuinely concerned they are getting scammed.
Surely if there was more TRANSPARENCY and the club asked the fans to rally round rather than be told everything is OK then they may have more support. I just hope the trust these key individuals have in the chairman is rewarded.
Tue Dec 15, 2009 3:50 pm
It is difficult and I understand that but you have to look at it from all angles...I can assure you that the Trust has not been asked to rally around the club, far from it, they do not quite get on with some of our board so to speak and I doubt Vince will have been asked either.
Its knowing what to do and timing the action required that is most difficult.
One thing that everyone should realise is the fact that thousands of fans do not use the internet messageboards and thousands would be quite happy with where we are in the league and talk of Malaysian investment.
It is difficult to get people to support something unless you can actually prove things are wrong, Today the fans are in the main happy, only absolute evidence of something really bad would get them stirred, even then many would not bother...
Big Gwyn tried to rally fans before in West Brom...many said they would support the RAM'S in reality about 20 out of the 1,000 actually did.

It's a pleasure to have a discussion with you.
When there is a statement to be made then it will be on the trust website. Do you think you will me making one? What is your website address?
Out of interest do you have any back up plans in place if the worst was to happen In Jan and would you be prepared to divulge them on this forum?

Once again I understand and this must be a very emotional time for you at present, you are clearly from your position a very loyal supporter of your football club and I commend you for that reason. You seem to have taken my point very strongly that was not the gesture to how it was written, I commented in a manner of trying to help you. When a football club goes into Administration and persons/supporters lose money it can become very " lash out" and emotions can run high, I would not like to see someone in your position as the fall guy for somebody elses mistakes as well as somebody elses financial losses. In the majority of cases when a football club gets in this position , fans/supporters will get more behing the purchase with the truth. The reason I say this is because I have read especially on the Cardiff City Offical site , the way the promotion of season ticket sales has been promoted to your supporters and I would hope you would not get tarnished with the same brush in the event.
TNT I do not know who you are but you have said that you have connections in football, Sullivan for instance...then it should be quite simple for you to find out if Cardiff City have a transfer embaego on them.
It's not my place to comment or investigate such matters or be the messenger of such detail. What I will say though listen very carefully to the poster on this forum " Steve Davies". He writes some very wise words and seems to have very good knowledge.
As above
What do you suggest the supporters groups do now on this matter? Prepare well for the worst and hope for the best
Attack the club, encourage fans not to buy season tickets, organise boycotts of our home games? based on what? Support your Club of course, but be truthful to the reasons of why to purchase
rumours and speculation
Most fans are happy, we are 3rd on the league etc etc...they would not support action against the club, Ridsdale etc on the basis of rumours... They cant be that happy as the season ticket sales in general are slow and at stalemate ( quoted from this forum)
Are the majority of your Supporters actually aware I would ask ? The average supporter simply relies on the media and the official Messageboard , reading from what I have read , it would read to the average supporter, Top 3, playing well and Malay investment en route shortly, hardly the basis to buy a season ticket very early especially at Christmas. Maybe the time for your statement we discussed earlier?
Now lets also get something straight here...I am a Cardiff fan, have been since 1968, my only interest is the club and its supporters...I have no motives other than to see the fans get what they deserve and the club being there for the fans. You cannot even talk about Vince he is the fans champion if you ask me...he does the work of many to help our supporters and has the utmost respect of most fans.

I understand your emotion , the love of your Club drives you forward, now is the time to help your Club for sure . Get to work and plan and prepare, if its wasted effort due to unfounded rumour so be it.
Chairmen come and chairmen go but the fans will always be here. Now that is very true but its the mess that some leave behind thats the real concern for you.
TNT you have made some interesting posts that add to the debate and that is good, long may it continue.
Thank you.

Some fair points and I agree with some of them...and if the time did come for direct action we would be prepared the supporters Trust and the supporters Direct organisation is constructed and constituted in a way to act if things really went pear shaped. The club are not near that point yet and hopefully never will be..Cash flow and financial problems are a common factor at our club...they have been for many years.
Tue Dec 15, 2009 4:41 pm
Even though I have some very serious doubts about the true position of our clubs finances, I am in the process of buying 3 renewed season tickets, not because I wish to take up the reward for being a loyal fan as PR states in his spiel, but simply because I want to support my club, financially and physically.
What is the worse scenario, if it goes wrong and I lose out a few hundred quid, then I'll have to take it on the chin, however if my money and others help to keep us going then great, it does grate with people when you see the wages paid and bonus's to certain high up employees, and I wonder how many of them have the confidence and belief to hold off some payments for a few months, I wonder how many of them actually live month to month on a tight budget like most of us. But they will come and go, we are stuck here and if paying our season ticket this early helps, I for one (well 3 actually) will do my bit.
Tue Dec 15, 2009 4:51 pm
Gwyn you are spot on mate, the real problem is the fans who are not so dedicated to the cause, but a bigger problem is the greed we see coming from the high earners who could take a cut in this time of trouble but never seem to want that to happen... we know things are far from good at the club, this transfer embargo for instance could still happen, just because I have not heard it will happen does not mean anything, its just the signs are telling me its unlikely but I know anything can happen with our club.
As a person I would ask fans to be cautious and don't believe the spin that often comes from the club, your post is excellent and the club would be wise to read it...ask for our help with some dignity and honesty and the club would more than likely get it, but spin it across like a reward and fans don't like that.
Tue Dec 15, 2009 5:38 pm
''dedicated to the cause'' come off it that sounds like a gerry adams quote, corky there are thousands of fans who have lost their jobs and as many whose jobs are in the balance, and the club expects them to pay for a season ticket without knowing whether or not we are going to have a club in less of a month
and its pointless PR coming out to say anything because no fucker believes a word that comes out of ccfc hq
there are a lot of anxious fans who require answers, and at the moment i dont see any

I agree Baz and that is not what I meant, there are lots of reasons fans cannot afford new season tickets...we are in the middle of a huge recession...but we also have a lot of newish fans who are not really used to the rough times following the club....hopefully if times get hard they will all still back the club the best way they can.
Tue Dec 15, 2009 8:57 pm
corky mate its politics for you next
i have decided tonight i have got the next 2 weeks off, going down to renew mine next monday, if the club needs the money they shall have it sooner rather than later, all i ask is please please keep us informed thats all we ask its not much considering what we spend with the club each year.
we musy survive this blip and come out a stronger ccfc than ever
