I would go mad if someone laid a finger on my kids but there needs to be reform on what powers teachers do have in the classroom.

Children literally take the mick out of teachers now as they know they cannot be touched.

Totally agree you said it No Respect

Re: BRING BACK

The problem with the cane was that it was misused. The biggest problem in schools is caused parents who don't discipline kids and namby pamby teachers who aren't strict enough.

Kids these days also have too much freedom-too many parents are happy for their kids to be out all evening getting up to no good.

It does depend on the school and the teacher. Personally when i was in the classroom i was strict but fair. Once i was nicked due to a complaint (CCTV proved that it was malicious-child's mum didnt like him being told off so made up complaint that i hit her child!) and had to go to Swindon nick with solicitor etc. CPS dropped charges as CCTV proved i was innocent along with the words of 25 children and 6 adult witnesses.

Too many teachers are namby pamby and tolerant of bad behaviour whilst parents don't take responsibility for their children.

My wife is a primary school teacher (reception class). She's been spat on ,kicked, punched and called all sorts of names ! When the parents are called in they treat it like a joke and try and laugh it off.

If i had been like that my old man wouldve beat the crap outta me. There is no respect from the kids anymore and it is down to the way some of them are brought up.

I have 4 kids aged between 13 and 6 and if i thought for one minute they were behaving like that in school then they wouldnt know whats hit um .

Re: BRING BACK

Sun May 02, 2010 4:53 pm

SCHOOL: no!

wouldnt want teachers being allowed to hit my kids, if my teachers had the right back then, they would have hit me several times, not cos i was out of order (which i wasnt very often) but just to demosntrate who is in charge.

HOME: yes!

think parents should be allowed to discipline their kids, theres also a big difference in smacking a child's bottom and beating a kid black'n'blue... beating is child abuse, imo, a smacked bottom doesnt hurt in the long term...

Re: BRING BACK

I'm not 100% sure the cane worked. Personally I think they should have a class for unruly kids. This class would do extra schoolhours like detention. Take away a kids freedom and they will suffer.

Re: BRING BACK

Sun May 02, 2010 5:06 pm

I dont blame the kids, I blame the parents....

if my lad misbehaves at school or anywhere, I as a parent am responsible and it is my duty to teach him respect and proper behaviour. mine did misbehave over a year ago at school and had a letter from his headmaster, after a serious "chat" with me he went back to normal and has no problems anymore. just wouldnt want anyone else touch him... imagine your daughter/son would be guests in my house and would misbehave and i would smack em. cant see anyone being ok with this. i certainly wouldnt....

That is probably the best post EVER written on this message board.
My mum taught all her life and my sister is deputy head of a comp in Northampton, they tell me how you can see things getting worse and worse.Chavvy parents let their feral brats run wild in schools as well as on the streets.

Re: BRING BACK

Sun May 02, 2010 6:26 pm

Its the parents fault because they just give in to their kids for a quiet life, and then when the kids do wrong they stick up for them not tell them off

Re: BRING BACK

Sorry boys, as a Secondary teacher myself, I disagree got to say respect is earned. Its a 2 way leaning process between teachers and students. If the teachers don't respect the kids, why will they work for them. And vice versa if the students don't respect the teachers then discover why.
Caning and hiting doesn't work, and up to a point shouting and bollocking doesn't either.
Some kids experience all this abuse and hitting at home etc so to carry it on in school just re-inforces it to the kids that its acceptable.
Many parents are agro and confrontational - my opinion goes back a generation to the Thatcher days when she believed in No Society etc.
Sorry to sound all liberal, but the teachers who work with the kids in mind work the best. Listening helps an awful lot

Re: BRING BACK

They really do need to do something about kids in schools now. There is no respect shown to the teachers from kids.I'll admit it when i was in school i had no respect for teachers and if one of them got hold of me i might not have been such a dickhead.

Re: BRING BACK

Sun May 02, 2010 7:15 pm

Well how come children in School are more cheeky today than ever, WHAT IS THE ANSWER ?

Re: BRING BACK

Sun May 02, 2010 7:25 pm

The answer lies with the parents bringing them up to respect people!

Re: BRING BACK

Sun May 02, 2010 7:29 pm

Respect has to go both ways as well. When i was in school the teachers who gave us respect they had respect back but there were some teachers who talked to the pupils like crap so they got the same back. I'm not proud of how i was but i was young

Exactly - show them respect they will learn more respect - treat them like animals they behave like animals.
Parents have a large roll in it as well.

Re: BRING BACK

Sun May 02, 2010 7:45 pm

THE CANE - no - due to the fact it is misused and who gives the teacher permission to whelt your child

I had a tw*t of a teacher who loved to use it - lucky for the girls he didnt cane but the had 2 wooden rulers put together across the knuckles - i always remember my time and that was in primary school and all i think of him is tw*t i wanna give him what for! I got no respect for him HE basically BEAT the kids into fearing him not resspecting him!!!

KERFEWS is what is need for kids .............there is no way kids should be wandering the streets harrassing other kids or elderly people etc

example

under 10's should be home by 7pm

under 12's should be home by 8pm

under 14's should be home by 9pm

under 16's should be home by 10pm

Parents need to be held responsible for their childrens actions simple as!!!! THEY ARE CHILDREN and they should know what they are doing at time

AGAIN this would be an ideal world - to hard to fund, police, carry out etc etc etc

they have no reasons to be on the streest after these times (unless accompanied by an adult who is not under the influence of druge or alcohol)

NO WAY! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE

There is no respect because were not shown any. Just meet us halfway. Like in my school I get on with half of my teachers because they are not power happy

Re: BRING BACK

Mon May 03, 2010 11:49 am

Just before they banned the cane, i was lucky enough with a few other boys to have a few across the hand, no way was i bending over, must of been about 1981.

I think parents have a lot to answer for, but i also believe in the personality of the kid, the area they grow up in and peer presure.

Re: BRING BACK

Mon May 03, 2010 12:17 pm

It’s an interesting debate. On one hand you could argue that it’s down to the parenting of the children but then again they can only do so much.

I was brought up quite strictly but I was a mischievous little git in school, nothing my parents could do about it really because their lectures would fall on deaf ears.

School was most definitely not strict enough, something needs to be introduced, as so many children these days have no manners or respect towards others.
