Singing and non singing

Mon May 24, 2010 3:44 pm

I am in my mid 50's and have been following City for 43 years. I am a season ticket holder and have been for many years. I sponsor the academy. I am passionate about Cardiff City and consider it the most important thing in my life apart from family (and that is touch and go).

Here lies the rub. I like to sit down and watch the match and I don't sing. I did when I was younger and my son does but I get so engrossed in the game. This does not make me any less a fan than the knuckle dragging idiots who get shit faced and stand facing away from the pitch shouting and singing and insulting everyone who doesn't do the same.

They guy behind me was so pissed he couldn't control himself. Kept hitting me on the head as he leapt up to sing. His mate made him sit down and he fell asleep at half time and was in a drowsy stupor for the who;e second half. For all my silence I consider myself a better fan that him as I came to watch my team not just using the day as an excuse to get drunk.

I feel this is a minority of the fans.

I come to the game after a few jars in canton - sing me heart out (like your son!) watch the game as well! Myself or my mates never stand facing away from the pitch (Canton stand) we do what we can to support the boys, and have a few beers at the same time. If i ever accidently hit some one i have the decency to appologise, and get on with it. Obvioulsy you seem to be the victim of a first class idiot! But, seriously i doubt that happens all over the ground, and like you said - you had your days when you were younger, doing the shouting, drinking and singing lark, so that doesnt make you any less a fan... everyone matures, and sees the game through different eyes as they get older.

You pay your money del boy, you do what you want. I'd prefer everyone to sing and clap but I'd never question or doubt a fan's support based on whether they make loads of noise or not.

Actually I have never had more than one beer before a football match. If I did I would miss chunks of the game going back and forth to the toilet. I used to sit close to Annis at Ninian. He would stand and sing at times during the game. He supported the team fully and was always a pleasure to sit close to as he made the atmosphere along with his mates.

The other point is my singing days were spent on the Bob Bank where we were all the doing the same. I guess the problem at Wembley is you can't chose where you sit so that you are with like minded people. But I get very insulted when people post on here that I am less than a fan because of my behaviour.
