Should this be a members only board

I asked this question in another thread.

In response, Annis said that any members had asked for it but he welcomed a poll.

So here it is


Myself I can't see much point to it.

If it is because people want to safeguard the exclusives on here, I can't see why because all that will happen is that someone who is a member on here will simply copy and paste to the MM board.

I voted yes, because there always seem to be about 45 guests online, It only takes a few minutes to register and once you've registered you may as well contribute to the discussions, something you can't do if not a member. Makes more sense to me

The MM board has accepted guests for years and still has over 7.000 members.

Nothing anyone has said so seems a particularly good reason to be honest

Yes you should be a member because its too easy to just pop on and look at the threads, so any dick & harry can see what you have posted.........mainly other fans like the jacks and that!!!!

and whats wrong with other people seeing whats on here? many forums allow you just to view. thing is you will get people singing up just out of curiosity and will not bother contrubuting so you will swell the members however you will have some dead numbers in there too

Why does that matter? It would only take them a few seconds to set up a profile and become a member so you''re not going to stop them.

If you have a look at all the members on here you can see the majority of them have never posted anything....so doubt it will make a difference if the numbers swell!!!!

'm sure a lot as I did signed on in the early days out of curiousity to see what the board was like because you could'nt view posts without being a member then either.

I decide to contribute. I would guess there a many who haven't looked at this board since.

also you have to be a member to vote or to voice your opinion on this matter and its obvious the majority of posters here want it to be exclusivley members only..... so i guess its a no brainer really.

I can see the benefits of both... But voted yes, for the main reasons above, if you are going to read what's on here, might aswell have you say and it makes for interesting reading

and dont want to be associated with them in any shape or form.
Unless you live down here perhaps you will not understand that - but it is vile!

exactally this! if someone wants to read they will just join up....... so why keep it members only? there are thousands of forums available to read without becoming a member........ just dont understand this descion

How is it forcing them to do anything? I'm not taping them up and probing them with a heated iron until they sign up!
It's just my opion, at the end of the day. It is up to Annis what the outcome is. Let's just see what happens..

I'm not too sure, it doesn't take long to sign up- but plenty probably won't bother.

Also, only members can vote in polls so it may be a more one sided result!

Sounds much better Elwood and u can express whatever opinion you want but I won't listen to it unless it is anti government, especially Tory Government oops Lib/Con government

I've already voted but wished I had not now. A bit premature I was.

I can see both sides to the argument. This board is getting a good reputation for its information so why not allow everyone passing by to read it and improve that reputation. That to me is a pro side of having an open board.

I have noticed on other boards regardless of what is posted here some goes running back to their "own" board and slag us off. Basically these sort of peeps are going to have a go regardless so I say lets make it difficult for them and make it a members board.

whats the point though? thing is it will make the number of members bigger so people can sing loud and proud how many members are on the site..... how many are just gonna to sign up to just read it sometimes?
