Help Please

where does the word "BUTT" as in "alright Butt" comes from. Its a Valleys word, and I was wondering

It's a mining term, the coal miners would be digging at the coal, and they'd have a young lad down by their arse end (butt) who's job it was to clear the coal away from the bloke digging it out, he was then referred to as his butty boy, and that's a fact,honest guv.

I honestly thought it was a colloquialism of the term "Buddy"

My Gradcha used to use the term " me butty" He was a miner as well.
