O/T Researching Your Family Tree

Been doing a bit latley, and I have discovered the following:-
My mothers side are all from Manchester , which I was aware of. I also have relations in.... Blackpool!
More worrying is that that side of the family came to the UK from France !!
Anybody know where I can find free or reasonable sites for this kind of thing.
I am also of the opinion that it would be unlikley that most of us on here are totally Welsh, bearing in mind migration trends over the last 200 years.

Ancestery.co.uk is a very good website which offers a 14 day free trial.
I have a Welsh surname and thaught all my familly originated fron Wales. However I discovered my Grandfather with a Welsh surname was born in Gloucester and moved to Wales with his family when he was 3. My other grandfather moved to Wales when he was an infant and is from Wiltshire.
Be careful you may not like what you find.

I use ancestery.co.uk as well, traced my family back to 1740 on my fathers side!

i use genes reunited .com 30 odd quid a quarter good search engine and 1911 census. ive gone back to the 1700s

I did a bit of research into my family history a couple of years ago.
It does throw up some fascinating stuff.
My great grandad - mothers side- was a scouser of Irish descent. I also unearthed ancestors on my dads side from the Cotwolds.
Joff is right, so few of us are 100% Welsh, we are all mongrels !

i know from my mothers side im related to the great sir henry morgan, of rum and pirate fame
