A forum for all things Cardiff City

This is not as you can imagine a straight forward negotiationas there are many factors to include that dont often happen in football.
You have got a megarich football club, who have a very good footballer who is still very much capable of playing at the very top, a player who is captain of his Country and who would not leave his club for any other bar one, US.
Bellamy wants the move, Cardiff want the move, Man City want money.
So what is the position at this moment.
City offered Man City to take Bellamy on a season long loan and will pay 20% ( £18k pw ) of his wage to do so. Man City said no and have told City that they can have Bellamy on a season long loan but they must pay more of his wage.
Last week I said that it is unlikely that the deal would go ahead and City also felt that the deal was ' pretty much dead in the water '.
But Dave Jones has not given up and the club have continued to negotiate with Man City and they have convinced Man City to lower the amount of bellamy's wage that City would have to pay, but it is still a considerable amount higher than the £18k previously offered.
Most know on here that TG and DJ have gone to Malaysia on ' a sightseeing trip ', but I understand that DJ is actually there trying hard to convince Vincent Tan to pledge more money into the club to make this deal happen as well as other deals he is looking at. We know that the Malaysians have bought 36.75% shares and of that Vincent Tan has 33.075% of them, so he is the man that DJ needs to get onside and fast if he wants to spend.
If Vincent Tan wants to play then he will play big time but DJ is going to have to work hard on him as Tan is a business man not a football fan but who knows maybe DJ will work his magic. I hope this deal happens but I also hope it doesn't take over our summer and we end up not getting Bellamy and all our eggs have been in one basket. if we dont get the nod off Tan this week then we have to move on in my opinion.

Also TG and Tan Want Ledley to stay and are going to improve their offer.

Spot on about our over rated Joe

I think we are right to increase the offer for Ledley but not seriously break the bank for him. Thanks Carl, Positive news on Bellamy

Annis Ledley does want to stay at City, the Celtic deal is worth £5 million to him though but if he gets a better offer from City and he sees ambition from the club too then I have been told that Joe wants to stay.

Gotta dissagree on Ledley here he is a fabulous player with a big engine, a good hard tackler, a good steady passer of the ball and prior to his injury and lately has been getting in the box and can grab us a goal or two. His head was been messed about something rotten by Peter Ridsdale and the poor lad didn't know if he was coming or going under those circumstances and carrying a double hip injury how could anyone have expected him to perform at his best last season. He's been sorted medically now so with a full pre-season under his belt you will see the real Joe Ledley and I for one hope it will be in a Bluebirds shirt if not then good luck to him, football is a short career and you have to make the most of it. Good luck Joe whatever you decide.
As for Bellamy I think any Cardiff fan not wanting to see him in our shirt would be a fool however as Carl says we can't wait too long for a decision otherwise we may lose out on other targets. Come on Mr Tan dig deep

If they market the deal right they could make a killing.

I think you are absolutely spot on all counts there. Still, part of being a football fan is a game of opinions. I share your views exactly though.
Ability wise I would place Ledley at mid-table Premiership and can;t see him developing much further. This may suggest why Everton went cold on him.

A question to you all. Let's assume that there is a possibility of Bellamy signing. Where would you play him and at whose expense? I can't see Jones changing his tactics from 4-4-2
I reckon he would be played on the right or left wing or up front. He would definitely be starting 11 but I think he would be shifted between these positions. That, in my mind, would be ideal for the following reasons:
1. We won't get a full season out of Burke
2. Despite last season I think there's still question marks over which Whittingham will turn up.
3. Chopra vanishes for periods during the season.

BELLERS AND BOTHROYD UP FRONT
Wed Jun 16, 2010 5:16 pm
The present squad was within an inch of promotion and if we were to keep the bulk of our side and add Bellamy I really do think promotion would be there for the taking - especially as the Championship appears weaker this year.
People have differing opinions about all our players (I personally think Bothroyd spends far too much time on the floor but I wouldnt want him to leave) but we do have a very good set of players and a group who want to prove that they are good enough to go up.
One exceptional player - at least exceptional in respect to the Championship - and a few improvements here and there and it should be good enough.

I think Jones just might pull this off with VT. For all of Jones's limitations and faults he does seem to be good at smooth talking and brokering deals. The signings of Fowler (ill-fated) and his wages suggests this. Also, purely speculation, but the signing of Bellamy may well play into VT's ego and affinity with our fans. I seem to recall Borley saying that VT loved the Supertan avatar on the other messageboard and the sight of Malaysian flags.
Fingers crossed

The thought that immediately springs to my mind was when Noriwich signed Darren Huckerby and were promoted. He literally murdered everyone's defence and was the major reasons for an average Norwich team being automatically promoted.

Someone give Bellers a nine iron and the deal will be done next week
Wed Jun 16, 2010 5:38 pm
Much as I'd love to see Bellamy come it feels like were spending too much on one player and he still wouln't be our player. One player doesnt make a team no matter how good he is. Woulnt it be better if we have that sort wages to splash around to build a stonger squad all round? This all reminds me of the Fowler fiasco.

I've always known the Bellamy deal has been alive and kicking in the background, you can ask Richard K on facebook how persistant i've been regarding Bellamy coming to Cardiff! I'm not saying nothing about my sources as they wish to remain private, but Bellamy is still insistant on joining Cardiff. this is FACT. Bellamy joining Cardiff will do wonders for revenue at Cardiff. The extra gate and merchandise and the prospect of TV companies wanting to cover more City games than usual (similar to that of Newcastle last year) will surely do enough to pay the increase on his wages..... ? thats without the increased exposure in the middle east and malaysia!
I believe we WILL without doubt be promoted - and possibly WIN the league with the acquisition of Craig at the club. Ledley would probably stay, and by the looks of things, so will Chops and Both. Would Whitts and the rest of the gang want to miss out on that opportunity - i dont think so!
Retaining our current players for the coming season, and adding to the midfield , at least one tidy center back and one physical ball winning midfielder (possibly leadership skills) and icluding Bellamy to that list, in my eyes will almost certainly get us promoted! I'd even go as far as saying make Bellamy captain at the club as well. This is his chance to become a CCFC legend forever........
Will this depend on DJ and his trip to Malaysia? who knows, Lets just hope Tan will chip in a bit more.
I still see good times next season, as long as we keep what we've got!
Once again, good post Carl and thanks for keeping us informed!

Come on!!! Fowler, he was passed his best mate! Bellamy has just had what was very close to the best season of his career scoring some scorching goals against the greatest teams in Europe! For Cardiff to scoup up Bellamy is a dream signing! £100m next year for premiership status! you do the maths!

this is great news Carl thanks for passing it on. The only negative thing is the name calling of Joe Ledley by City supporters, not called for in my opinion.
Wed Jun 16, 2010 7:14 pm
Do we know what Man Cuty have come down to in respects to the percentage wage they want us to pay? If we offered to pay 40% of his wages that would be an extra £18k a week. I am torn between the Malaysians pushing the boat out for what is only an extra £900k in wages, which is nothing to them and having the club run correctly for a change. I am beginning to see why PR like to splash the cash.
Bellamy would be a massive catalyst, he is worth more than his wage and his ability, he will draw in interest to the club and probably end up with Ledley staying.
Wed Jun 16, 2010 8:36 pm
I have heard Bellamy is working with Man City to find ways around the current problem. I think he might be pissing a few people off in the process, but with the players rumoured to be coming in, and the fact that Robinhio is also rumoured to be staying on at man city - it is only pushing Bellamy further from the club. I think eventually a way will be found to bypass the snag of these current negotiations.
It certainly shows his passion to come home and play for his City. Don't write this out of the water just yet!!
Fingers crossed hey!
Wed Jun 16, 2010 9:02 pm
I dont know why the club dont think laterally about the impasse with Man City on wages.
From what has been said here there is a difference of circa £20K a week in what we want to pay and what Man City want us to pay.
After tax this is about £0.5 million a year to Bellers. So if he is not prepared to take a drop in wages, why dont the club offer to pay £0.5M direct to his Sierra Leone project. The club save money, Bellers is no worse off, Man City are happy. Job done.
Wed Jun 16, 2010 9:49 pm
Bellamy will get us promoted, of that I have no doubt. He will galvanise the whole
team. He's the only player I'd consider letting Chopra go to make way for.
but we'd still need a few more players!!
