League Of Wales revamped

Sun Jun 20, 2010 9:02 am

The LOW has now cut the Welsh Premier down to 12 teams and brought in new rules.
More games wil be shown on TV and clubs have been told where to invest their money like youth structure etc.
The FAW wil be able to double their funding to the 12 clubs as well.
About time something was done.

The 12 teams will play each other twice on a home and away basis.

The league table at that point will then be split into the top 6 and bottom 6.

The teams in each of the groups will play each other twice. The team that finishes first in the top 6 will be crowned champions and given Wales only champions league spot.

The team who finishes second will be given an Europa cup place along with the Welsh cup winners.

The 3rd Europa cup place will be awarded to the winners of a play-off between the teams in the remaining places in the top 6 and the best placed team in the bottom 6.

Should the Welsh cup winners come from any of the afforementioned teams, the play-off will include the 8th placed team.

Yes agree there, but at least things seem to be moving on.
They want the national league to improve so Wales can start challenging for World Cup qualification.
Rhyl havent make the top 12 although it was stated that they drew 6 out of 10 of the largest attendances. :ayatollah:

Out of boredom yesterday I went down to watch Llanelli v TNS!... The Llanelli fans I spoke to seem to have mixed views on the new set up and think its a copy of the Scottish set up (I guess it is really!).... 1st time I had been to Stebonheath fair play its a nice little ground .. 1 of the locals told me Llanelli was the same as neath with a 50/50 split between Cardiff/Swansea fans....If true im pretty surprised considering Swansea is litrally on there doorstep!

this re structuer of the welsh prem is a complete joke, the knock on affect it has had on other welsh league clubs is shocking,eg ton pentre relegated from div 1 for finishing 6th from bottom or around that mark, the welsh fa have completley fuked up ,it really pisses me off what they have done. :x

The irony is, that if the structure had been what it is now, a few years ago Ton would have took the chance they were given and not turned down promotion.

Ton Pentre and Barry Town, and probably Bridgend should be in the top level, but they arent for one reason or another (Ton turned it down several times after winning the Welsh league, Barry went nuts with the money and Bridgend had years of no funding after they left the Southern league) and just have to fight to get back.

They are bigger clubs with better grounds than many in the top division now. (like Airbus and Bala).

Its a shame there are no South or south east wales teams in it.

This 6 team split thing is a bit of a joke to be honest.

The positives are they seem to be trying to improve things, and it looks great for the top twelve. What about the rest of the clubs?

I don't know much about the setup so won't make any further comment lol

LEAGUE OF '''''WALES'''' MOST OF THE CLUBS ARE FROM NORTH AND MID WALES AND CONTAIN LOADS OF ENGLISH PLAYERS,ESPECIALLY SCOUSERS.

At least the spilt meant that the league lost 6 sides from North Wales as the teams from South West Wales survived (Port Talbot, Haverfordwest, Carmarthen, Haverfordwest, and Neath) the balance is now 7-5 rather than 13-5.

The dominance in numbers of the North Wales teams was a big factor in the financial troubles which caused the downfall of previously good sides like Barry, Inter Cardiff, Ton Pentre, Cwmbran, Ebbv Vale (remember playing them -'Elbow Vale' with John lewis and Gilo as their management team and big lump called Tyler up front).

Hopefully the new split plus the extra money available will make it more attractive for our local sides to try to get in.

i sent a letter to the faw last year in regards as to why we can not enter the welsh cup being based in wales as a welsh team, and TNS can cause they are based in england heres the letter below:

Hello i would like to raise this topic and point out to you some facts that yourselves may not have known in regards to European Qualification.

how are TNS who now are located in england are allowed to qualify for europe through the welsh league system? While cardiff city who are based in wales but play in england, as well as being the best supported club and the capital city of wales can not qualify?

surely it would me more sense to allow the english league teams to qualify? betther support, better chance of progress and more sponsorsip money? i understand the uefa implication but if any welsh club in the english league system can not qualify for eurpoe via the welsh/english systems and TNS who are based in England qualify for europe through the welsh league/cup competitions, i think there is double standards there? how do you feel the situation would be best addressed?

Here is the link to where TNS play http://www.multimap.com/maps/#map=52.86 ... SY11%204AS and their address is clearly marked as Shropshire England

PARK HALL
Burma Road
Oswestry SY11 4AS

Kind regards

Their reply to me was they were invited by invitation of the faw. no explination or anything useless as usual
