Plus, we have the potential to bring in quality, top class players. Can't see any wanting to play down west.

One of the main reasons for our popularity is Dave Jones getting us to Wembley on a few occasions.
This has promoted free marketing.

Another reason and I may get slated for this is that our supporters complained that there were a lot of plastic supporters going to Wembley who havent watched City before and I hate our supporters mentioning this all the time, plastic this and plastic that.
I disagreed and said that it could be a good thing as they may become a regular down the CCS and I think this is coming true.
We need to embrace these people who are new to Cardiff City. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I only said that yesterday to Carl, that going to Wembley three times and getting these new fans is one of the main reasons why we have become so big so quick. No w we have to keep them.

Totally agree, and if they bring their family and friends, we could maybe cheeky enough about talking to extend our ground.
It only takes every fan each to introduce a friend and we will get sell outs every game...simples... :ayatollah:

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for bringing new blood into the stands at CCS, it's simple maths...more bums on seats = more revenue. But, I do wish that these supporters support Cardiff City like old. Turn CCS into a fortress that makes away teams uncomfortable. The atmosphere against Leicester at home in the league for the last 20-or-so minutes was phenomenal, as it was in patches against the Jacks and Leicester in the play-off and through games all season, but it was overshadowed by massive lulls in noise. As Annis will atest to, a few of us tried to keep it going but just hit a wall of silence. If we can get everyone going, a regular 23-24000 crowd all going mental would be fanstastic.

And it has been quick. Think back only 10 years and we could only dream of having a 20k+ average attendance. Yes, we could do it on a one-off game but every week - unbelievable.

We've needed every one of these so-called plastics or glory supporters (I'd rather call them new fans) to come to watch the rise of the City and to keep them interested - and we have. Close-run end of seasons when challenging for promotion, Wembley appearances in high-profile games (not your Leyland DAF Trophy or whatever nonsense) have given them the bug - and long may it continue.

We've also developed our families support and it's fantastic to see so many kids wearing City shirts again - more so even than when Rick Wright launched his "Junior Bluebirds" scheme.

The only down side in all this is that our commercial department has failed to grow at the same pace and is either woefully inadequate or just inept, the club could have made a killing in the merchandise market. I honestly think it was better a few years ago at NP.

But we have got to keep it going on the pitch to keep building off it :ayatollah:

When you think about it, it really is in a short space of time and we have to make sure we keep them and keep our Support rising every season. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

It,s about how many we get in the ground not season ticket sales which we were conned into, i tend to agree with steve about our levels of debt and would remain cautious

Absolutely, they are the die-hards of the future.

From the bleak late 70's to the turn of the century we lost generations of would-be fans due to the "standard" lol of football we were playing - amongst other things obviously. Think back to the 90's and remember the crowds - the vast majority were 30-40yo men who'd been there for years, the older generation in the central grandstand and very few women & children. It had to change or we would have gone under.

We are now attracting (and retaining) new support all the time and long may it continue. :ayatollah:

I don't feel conned by getting my Ambo ST. I would have had one anyway. It is about ST in quite a big way. The likelihood of a fan turning up if he already has a ticket surely is far greater than one turning up without one? If you look at the thread title it's about the differences of the two clubs (especially ST) I know we are by far a bigger club now going by season tickets. The jacks only averaged less than 15,000 crowds last season. It will be less this season IMO. If the jacks had 17,000 ST, you can be sure they would let us know. Ain't going to happen though is it. :D :ayatollah:

Do you realise that last season after just four games more people had been to the CCS than attended the entire 1996-97 season!!

To EVERYBODY who posted above, A BIG THANKYOU for welcoming us new fans to the club and I'm pretty sure I speak on behalf of most newbies as well :ayatollah: ... As my first game was against QPR at Loftus this year I've really gotten into C.C.F.C and will be attending as many games as I can next season (Jesus, I'm even trying to move heaven and hell just to live back in Cardiff  )
But Seriously, It's really appreciated that the Old school accepts us new fans..ONWARDS and UPWARDS :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Mark yer very welcome mate!

Its ridiculous really, not that long ago we were surviving on
Average gates of 6-7000

Only a retard couldt figure out that to get from there to over
20,000 means attracting new supporters.

My only fear is that the club are looking to attract a more
Sedate, sit down and behave yourself, type fan.

The lifeblood of Cardiff City Football Club is in the passion of
The supporters. Brilliantly illustrated by the roaring intimidating
Atmosphere's at the two Leicester games. Thousands of fans
Singing chanting STANDING... Yet no innocent Leicester City
Fans were ripped to shreds!!!

So welcome mate - and sing your heart out!!!!

One huge difference is that we enjoy traditional football with plenty of goals, but Paulo Sousa thinks that scoring is over-rated and fans should appreciate the finer things in the game, like 20 passes in your own half! If he stays there another season they'll have to pay the fans to watch them.

Well finishing 7th - he must have done something right? Next season will see how good he really is. 20 passes in our own half? Ask Forest, QPR, Newcastle etc etc, WBA fans and they will tell you Swansea are a skillful and very hard to beat side albeit one that doesn't score much. And that is where we fell short.

I'm not sure I agree with your Wembley sentiment. Swansea have always had a limited support compared with Cardiff and have never had the history or capacity to capture the Valleys catchment area. I think the most telling fact was there low attendance figures when they were in the top flight.

I would say in Swansea's history there have been two people who have distorted the parity between Cardiff and Swansea. John Toshack and Roberto Martinez.

I would sau, football wise, the only superiority Swansea has to Cardiff is the amount of talented footballers that have come from that area (not necessarily through their youth ranks).
