So much for Swansea being skint !

Fri Jun 25, 2010 10:21 am

They are just about to make their second signing for a fee (Roberts from Wrexham), and put in a £600k bid for Watford's Graham.

Well one lad who's come in is a midfielder and they are chasing a Portuguese midfielder as well, so there may be something in this - they've only lost 1 midfielder and did say they need to cut the squad down, so there may well be another going out of the door.

I don't think Orlandi has signed his new contract yet either. he would be a useful and cheap acquisition for us, according to the JBs he had a really good season for them and would provide cover and competition for McPhail. Probably more realistic than Pratley for us as well.

Their squad is starting to have a very ordinary look to it - they've still got the 4 shit strikers on their books and can't seem to shift them either to make room for another.

they will pack the midfield and defence even more only being allowed to cross the halfway line once every half
therefore 46 nil nils should keep them in the championship

It's actually Neil Taylor (Not Roberts) from Wrexham who recently made his full Wales debut who the club are looking at. The other player we have signed is a youngster from Aldershot called Scott Donnely. Both look like good prospects who can learn a lot under Sousa and the players around them. Before you start taking the piss over them, just remember plenty of young lower league players have made the step up and been successful (Paul Parry, Ian wright, Ashley Williams just to name a few). They show hunger and eagerness a lot more than say paying vast amounts of money to a journeyman player who is just happy to pick up his wages at the end of the month (Fowler anyone?)

Heard a few things re-transfers this week from a mate of mine who works at the club and you will be suprised ;)

Sousa is looking to bring in a number of players on trial during the pre-season games including a few from Portugal also a few more players will be leaving - pratley not one of them. :D

Point taken, some of our recent lower league transfere's have not worked out,Taiwo & Comminges in particular.

apology about Taylor - I'm not strong on names of non-league players.

You may be right and they may work out, but in my experience lower division players can be a gamble, for every Roger Johnson, there are lots of Gavin Gordon and Ngumbu-Nsungu's.

Personally at the moment to me your squad looks weaker than it did, the 2 coming in aren't bette rthan the 2 leaving. And the Portuguese lad at Cluj looks a strange target, he appears to be a bit of a journeyman.

At least there is a bit more to talk about don your way at the mo, its tumbleweed town here.

Difficult to see how you can shift your dead-wood as they are all under contract (many with extensions who you'd probably have liked to have got shot of) and I wouldnt be suprised to see 1 or 2 established players go. Orlandi for 1 and Rangel to Wigan. Pratley -we'll see !

Re: So much for Swansea being skint !

I couldn't care less about Orlandi as he is in and out of the team and always picking up injuries.
The team next season will be (at present)
De Vries
Tate
Monk
Williams
Rangel

Allen (or even Bodde if he makes it)
Pratley
Cotterill
Dyer
Van Der Gun

Dobbie/A.Nother

The Midfield is still good and the same as last year minus Britton, but there will be additions as we need cover.

With the youngsters from the lower leagues Lawnmower, you take a chance and if they don't come off then you haven't wasted large amounts of cash.

Do you still think Bodde will recover.
3 break-downs now... I wouldn't count on it.

That report doesn't state they have bid for him, it's just they have enquired about him.

Just like they supposedly enquired about Jay last season.

They ain't going to bid cos they can't afford to, hence going for Division 4 and Non-league players.

Bodde is with a dutch specialist who treated a current dutch international with the same problem and who also broke down twice. When he had rehab last tine he spent a long time resting then going full on into training which left a weakness there. This time there is less rest and his physio is being ramped up by the week.
Be great to see him back as hes one of the best in this division.

'was'.

It remains to be seen if he can ever get back to where he was.

IF he does ever come back, a lot of Championship managers and players will test his injury and bottle, they batter him from all sides, so I don't see him ever being the same player ever again !!!!

Out of interest, who is the current Dutch international?

Oooops.

He picked up an infection whilst being operated on, doesn't expect to be back for the start of the season.

Pratley, let's be honest, will be gone. Where's his new contract offer?

We certainly aint skint, it's just that we wouldn't fork out silly money for players where as other clubs would.
As most fans know down here it'll take time in reality to establish ourselves before we make a real push.
But it won't be through forking out stupid money.
Down to having a very shrewd local businesman and directors who have the club & city at heart.

"Shrewd businessman" - hmm... hasn't Huw's company had major problems?

Totally agree about not spending stupid money, but... you're not making the money to really sustain you at this level. Your squad hasn't really got many valuable assets. Pratley, possibly Williams... and the youth setup isn't bringing too many through, Allen aside.

You've brought in how many strikers now, none of whom have really done the business.

I'd not claim you are in financial danger, but not necessarily as rosy as has been made out.

if your not skint why are you not paying the council for the rent on the liberty?
