Baz, It was insane alright, I grew/born up there (Maerdy) and I have to say The Maerdy Hotel was the best pub in the world :D :D ......I go to pubs in London/other Countries and when people are giving it large I just sit back and think (you wouldn't last 2 minutes in the Maerdy Hotel   ) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Marc used to get in there mid eighties, always a warm welcome, but woe betide anyone who got out of line. A rough old boozer, with some right tasty characters. The Earland family immediatedly spring to mind.

My first wife was a Maerdy girl and I got married in the chaple on the main road and found out a few years ago, that lennie Lawrence also got married there to his first wife who was a Maerdy girl.

One of my old mates from Judo used to run the maerdy hotel, Paul something and its killing me coz I caan't remember his last name.

Great Valley great people.

Rarely get up that way now Marc, I`m down in Porth. Last time I drove through there it was like a ghost town, with everything shut down. Little Moscow now looks very delapitated.

JBBJ, Sadly it is like a ghost town (little Moscow :ayatollah: ), but has the most friendly people you would ever want to meet, do you remember the Maerdy Hall (another legendary place). I used to have a few jars in Porth (the black rock?? is it still there??)
