FAIR PLAY TO DAVE JONES

Fri Jul 09, 2010 8:54 am

How refreshing was it to see Dave Jones's interview regarding Joe. I would love to see Dave doing more interviews such as this and possibly he's worked out that under the current climate he could be a far more influential figure in letting the customers know what's going on, as much as he can anyway without jeopardising current situations.

It would help allay lots of worries and lessen the tittle tattle and Chinese whispers that are so common place. Peter Ridsale was the king of such interviews but due to the amount of lies and spin he dropped on us, he lost credibility and no one believed him any more (well some might have been fooled by the actor).

And whilst Dave Jones can be quite sharp and even rude to some interviewers, until he starts spouting off spin and crap I will respect what he says and surely the club should use him more at the present time especially. You don't have to like Dave Jones or even agree with the way he handles the press, but whilst he continues to come up with the goods I'll always give him my support.

I wonder if a move upstairs in control of all football matters such as contracts etc. with a team under him would be a good move to consider. If Gethin Jenkins is up to sorting out the finances and mess at the club then great, in my opinion the jury is still out, don't think he's a people sort of person, but we had that with Ridsdale and where did that get us.Possibly a Gethin Dave Jones close partnership would be a good option. :old:

The same Dave Jones who bullishly said he was happy for Ledley to run his contract down as a precedent was set with Sturridge and a tribunal would decree at least a £6m fee for Ledley?! So, what did he have to say now? Oops perhaps?!

Like he's always said we'll always get some money from him.

We will get his training fees which should amount to around 600k at least as dave jones said this would be the worse case scenario. Hope Ledley does whats right for him and his career rather than his pocket

"We are still hoping Joe will sign a new contract. If he doesn't we will look at the compensation, it's as simple as that,” said Jones.

"What's happened with Sturridge at Chelsea bodes well for us because he has not played anywhere near the amount of games Joe has played and he's not a full international.

"So if I was the chairman I would be pretty happy with what they have delivered there because Joe is on a different playing field from Sturridge even though he's at Chelsea.”

Jones comments only really apply if he went to say Stoke, though.

Indeed, Nerd, which make his comments all the more ridiculous. Why would he be "pretty happy" with a situation where a £6m player can run his contract down and be under no obligation whatsoever to take a route that rewards City at all? His comments were utter folly and as delusional and arrogant as the spewings of our previous chairman.
