DJ is right Celtic Will have to pay training compensation, here is Article 20 of FIFA Rules on the Status and Transfer of Players;

Training compensation shall be paid to a player’s training club(s): (1) when a
player signs his fi rst contract as a professional and (2) each time a professional
is transferred until the end of the season of his 23rd birthday. The obligation
to pay training compensation arises whether the transfer takes place during
or at the end of the player’s contract. The provisions concerning training
compensation are set out in Annexe 4 of these regulations.

Celtic will have to pay and as DJ says there is a strict criteria applied, in the UEFA confederation area clubs are placed in categories and both Cardiff & Celtic are considered category 2 clubs. Compensation WILL therefore be 60,000 euros for every year of training plus the average of each clubs costs for developing a youth player.

This could total as much as £1m and maybe this is the technical detail which is holding up the transfer.

I'm just wondering if the 'last minute' hitch which stopped Ledley signing yesterday has something to do with City realising (may be due to the pages on this MB) that they could be entitled to compo of £900k and Celtic are checking it out?

Did the club ever put a new contract to him in writing tho?
