I used to love going to Wales games but too many crap results in front of even crapper crowds in that awful stadium with the horrible PA and his god awful voice just turned me right off going to see them anymore. Well with only a 3m population, we are never going to do well. I would still say we are underachieving. Could be worse though. We could have a population of 45m and drastically underachieve whilst being the laughing stock of world football after telling everyone we are going to easily walk all the major tournemounts

Think you will find the laughing stock over the world are Italy and France did not get out of group stages - I have never said England are world beaters its the press and the nomads that never go and watch England on a regular basis

If you are going on Population the Turkey and Russia would be serious under achievers

Lots of problems with English football but a few are, to many overseas players, foreign manager, players not wanting to play for ENgland more interested in club football the list could go on !
