If the players who are into the last year of their contracts were sold by the club before the start of the season ?
I ask as we know what has happened with Ledley.
Also, if it were to happen, would your opinion of the Malaysians change ?
Another factor to keep in mind would be that the players have been asked to defer bonuses and appearence fees so would they be willing to put pen to paper on a new contract under these circumstances ?
The players in question are Whittingham, Bothroyd, McPhail and McNaughton who all have millions of pounds worth of value until August 31st 2010 but then we run the risk of losing them for nothing.

I wouldn't mind as much if we replaced them like for like not for someone who we have never heard of like Danny Eatfood or something
Sun Jul 18, 2010 1:54 pm
Get rid, guarantee our survival, get us on an even footing and rebuild with the sole intention of not getting relegated.
Sun Jul 18, 2010 1:54 pm
I would mind if it was Bothroyd and Whittingham - replacements of their quality is hard to come by.
McNaughton is getting old now, and I've never particularly rated McPhail.
My opinion of the Malaysians would change, yes. They said their aims were to reach financial stability and the promised land. How do you reach the promised land by selling the likes of Bothroyd and Whittingham?

What a sad state to be in.......brand new stadium, record number of season tickets, largest attendances for donkey years..................AND FECKIN SKINT!!
.Keep Whitts and Chops at all costs I say

Everyone is expendable!
The issue we have is say we got 5 million for the 4 of them, it's not going to go far.
We have a replacement for Kev in Matthews, so no need to replace.
We are already light in midfield and cover for Jay, so to replace those 3 players you must be looking to sign a further 5.
Do=able for 5 milion, if DJ weaves some magic but you'll need to get lucky too.
I would give them all until mid August to sign a new deal, if not list them. They will all be earning a small fortune.

sell. im afraid.
we cant let what happened to joe, happen again.

I wonder if we had never move from Ninian if we would be so fecked now.
Wolf I don't think we can take the chance with Whitts if he goes for zilch next summer - if Forest or whoever can chuck us 2 million we should get shot - get the tax man off our backs and sign a decent League one winger for 300-500k - will be a gamble but there must be an abundance of them out there.

Trouble is mate I reckon Whitts is worth at least 4m,top scorer in the league last season, and a midfielder...........we have to give him a new contract ASAP.If he wont sign one within 2 months then he has to go unfortunately.I reckon Chris Burke will be our star man this season..........Oh what a mess we are in

I think selling McPhail, Whittingham and McNaughton now would be a very prudent move. Basically we have had the best out of them and if we could cash in to the tune of £4-5m I would be delighted.
That said the play-off final shows exactly how important Bothroyd is, so all stops must be pulled out to keep him.

We can't have it both ways,Lot's of people slate Sam for buying the likes of Kav and Thorney on large wages etc.. but if you want the right sort of player to do the job for you and one with a proven calibre, then you have to pay the current market value.
On the other hand you can scour lower leagues, have a good youth policy and be patient.I believe you need a mixture of all the possibilities, too much of one can skint you, to much of another can drive you down the divisions and how many of us have enough patience for another ten year plan.
I have spent most of my life waiting and being patient, Sam was a gambler and it was so close to paying off, Ridsdale was a gambler but also demanded huge wages and bonus's whilst playing for high stakes, but again it nearly came off.
Lot's of us are saying we want the Malaysian's to be more business like and more prudent but what if that means treading water and trying to survive for ten years, how many of our new fans will have the stomach for that.

this question shouldnt even be on our minds FFS vincent tan lis a f*cking billionaire 20 mill is a drop in the ocean 4 these guys so why the f**k are we skint?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
imo they should further invest now b4 all the decent players are snapped up !
this is a f*cking joke in all my 32 years of supporting city ive never felt to f*cking depressed and that includes the 5 yrs i was banned so it must be shit
in my opinion the malaysians should pump money in, sell to sam or f**k off
Sun Jul 18, 2010 3:06 pm
No. Don't sell them. We have a really decent chance to get into play-offs again with current squad, if we would get rid of Whitts, Chopra or anybody else...no way
Sun Jul 18, 2010 4:29 pm
Well it looks to me if that the Malaysians will have to stump up 1 million every month to get us through the season if we don't sell them and then to give them away at the end of the season would be very bad practice.
These guys are finding out the hard way how professional football operates

Just because you've never heard of some one - doesnt make them any less a player?
Do any of these names ring a bell ?
Roger Johnson, Kevin McNaughton, Ross McCormack, Glen Loovens, Anthony Gerrard,
f**k man, some people didnt even know Whitts, Bothroyd, Rae, Burke, Marshall, Earnshaw, kavanagh til they were transferred to us!

Time and time again I keep seeing quotes of VT should do this VT should do that, he is worth £xxxx billions
STOP, THINK??Why the hell should someone who ONLY owns 30%+ of the club foot the bill for ALL the debt and ALL the expenditure????
Why are the other lazy f*cking shareholders NOT putting their hands into their pockets and sorting all this shit out??? After all as a whole they collectively own more of the club so should stump up MORE of the money.
The sooner us fans realise that VT & TG are business men who have a large share in a company, our club, and are not out and out owners, who have got us out of the current mess we are in, the better. Maybe we should turn our attention to the other 60%+ shareholders to stump up the cash, In other words THEY should put up or f**k off!

We can't afford another Ledley situation to happen, & if that means selling players, so be it. Basically, i think the whole pay/contract structure at the club needs overhauling anyway, & as things stand that needs to start happening sooner, rather than later. The club has got to "cut its cloth" accordingly.

Good analogy Gwyn.

Out of all the players I think Jay would be the biggest loss.

I see Werder Bremen are prepared to sell Ozil as he is in last year of his contract as they would rather get a fee now rather than see him walk next season
Mon Jul 19, 2010 9:43 am
Sell.
Mon Jul 19, 2010 10:23 am
Give them an ultimatum to sign asap and, if they don't and are stalling on the deal, sell them
