Cwmaman last night

Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:56 pm

First time I ventured in Cwmamon since we used to fight them on the mountain top in between our two valleys back in 1981..lol.
We first went into a pub called the "Bonkey where our local band The Tinmen were playing that evening..We were then told there was a pub up the road "The Globe"..so after a bit of a trek & a mountain side climb we found this little gem of a boozer which i can only desribe as a shrine to Elland rd..propping up the bar was a guy in a City shirt..and the conversation turned to our battles nearly 30 years ago....He then said we only wanted to fight you cos we thought you were Jacks..and i laughed as it was vice versa ...we used to go over there singing City songs thinking we were battling against the white shite...Anyway ...Fab night ..Had a great welcome of the guy behind the Bar & a bit of banter with Big sam & the valley commandors..a big thank you to the locals in the bonkey aswell for making us all welcome :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

im from cwmaman i remember ferndale boys used to come over to cwm i was only around 10 or 11 so used to throw rocks down on them as they were coming up from blaenllecau and then run like f**k.. :D
i think u lot came unstuck on quite a large number of occasions :ayatollah:
i remember once we saw cwm boys chase a large number of boys back down the mountain we stayed up on top and saw a lad about 16 hiding in the trees he said please dont say f**k all he gave me a pen knife and my mate about 30 odd pence to keep quiet. the older cwm lot came back up they had air rifles , bats and a nasty alasation  they asked us who he was and we said it was my mate marcs cousin from trecynon
when they went back to cwm the lad said he was a maerdy boy and only up there cause the ferndale boys he knew asked a few maerdy along to boost their numbers cause cwm boys wernt individually hard but mad as f**k and didnt care what they used..
i saw loads of scraps between cwm and ferndale and cwm and maerdy
once i watched a big fight in a school yard in blaen near the ferndale pub and then got chased by skinheads on the way home. :(

Funny enough i got my bike out on Friday and cycled down the line from Aberdare to Cwmamman and on the way back did a detour off the line and called into a pub off the beaten track called the Falcon. This is a little gem of a pub come hotel in a tranquil location down by the river had a good welcome down there and the owner give me a brief tour of the hotel showing me the bar which was reclaimed from a old chapel and the old woodwork is really stuning.

The only downside of my visit was the walk back up the steps with my bike to get up onto the main road the barman warned me that the pint i had just consumed would be burned off by the time i got to the top of the stairs and he wasn't kidding :D

Anyway if you are in Cwmaman again i reccomend you seek out the falcon and pop in for a pint.

The falcon is a nice little pub, they do some nice BBQ. The only problem is Clive their son ,he keeps telling me his uncle in Russia has his finger on the button ready to launch if anyone upsets him :D .not what you need when your having a quiet drink :ayatollah:
