Re: Poll: Ban the Burka

It is complete and utter ignornace for Islamic women to cover their faces. There isn't even any obligation for them to do so within the Koran and the reason they do has more to do with tribal custom rather than religion.

Therefore there can be no human rights reasons for continuing this practise and as it is a tribal custom rather than a religous one, the law must be changed to make them conform to customs of this country where hiding your identity is viewed as absolute ignorance.

The law must be changed to make them conform with the cutsoms of this country? Well the custom of this country is you can wear whatever you want to, so we dont need a change in the law for that.

Are you suggesting being ignorant should be made illegal?

I have explained my position so stop shit stirring. No-one covers their face in the UK and to do so is ignorant.

Therefore as there is no religous reason for covering the face (it is a tribal custome from their homelands) then they should be made to identify themselves in the same way as everyone else is.

Finally most racists are discribed as 'ignorant' and that's illegal is it not? So are you suggesting that Islamic women are given speical status over the rest of us?

I'm not sure how you can definitely say that? What if they had been shop lifting or carried out an act of vandalism, how would they be identified on CCTV cameras like anyone else would?

Religious/tribal, makes no difference, people have a right to wear what they want to in this country. Strange that people want to ban the Burqa, but not any other form of face cover - an odd bit of selective fashion legislation that happens to impact on people who's religion happens to be dominated by people from another country.

if you want to ban people covering their face in a bank, airport, garage, fine - but to ban one particular form of face cover outright makes no sense at all. If you do that you have to ban covering your face, not just the burqa. In which case, you can forget going on a stag party dressed as Morph, the phanotm flan flinger, or the invisible man; wrapping a scarf around your face in winter, or wearing a full face helmet.

Motorcycle helmets and balaclavas are considered a security risk at airports, but no-one has suggested banning them totally. Odd that.

Racism is not illegal cos it is ignorant, it is illegal cos it is hateful.

Ok, do you want o make Hoodies and baseball caps illegal as well then?

if people want to ban face cover i would be against that, but could see the logic. Banning one form makes no sense to me.

WRONG Joe!!! Racism is not hateful, its just ignorant. Because a black person doesnt like
a white person just because of the colour of his skin is just plain ignorant and daft. It does
not mean he's any more likely to murder, maim, firebomb his neighbor than anyone else. This
is the MAJOR bullshit that successive governments have brainwashed people into believing!!
Why is a racist EVIL???.....

As for the Burkha? I actually would NOT ban it. I would recognise their freedom to dress as they see fit.
Providing new guidelines are laid out to shopping precincts, airports, shop owners, Tesco's Asda etc etc
so that THEY are made fully aware that they have the freedom of choice to refuse entry to these Star
Wars relics should they see fit!!

SORRY - NO BASEBALL CAPS - NO HOODIES - NO BALACLAVAS
NO MOTORCYCLE HELMETS - NO RELIGIOUS FACE VEIL TO BE
WORN ON THESE PREMISES - THIS IS TO ENSURE EVERYONE
ON SITE IS RECOGNISABLE FOR THE CCTV CAMERAS AND WILL
INCREASE SECURITY AND THE SAFETY OF US ALL.

simple! we'd soon see the fuckers change their tune when 'hubby' has to do the
shopping every week

Wrong as well in my view taffyapple.

Racism can be due to ignorance But you surely can't say it can't be hateful

Look a the Klu Klux Klan for example.

And did Hitler massacre 6 million jews because he was ignorant???

A racis can be extremely evil. And they often are.

One other point. I have my concerns about the Burka in airports etc.

But why call Muslim women by an abusive name as you do in your last paragraph???

Within maternity hospitals - the full dress robe anything can be smuggled in n out underneath including a baby or a bomb

THEIR free choice to live in the UK they should live with western Rules - If i go to countries on holiday then i have to adhere to covering up or be stoned to death! ok maybe not that bad but arrested for showing skin!

well ... actually, there is no law against wearing white coats with pointy hoods, so there is nothing stopping anyone doing that if that is what turns them on.

There is a subtle but important difference between the words 'racist' and 'racism'.

Racist - is holding a certain set of beliefs. It is not against the law to hold beliefs, you cannot legislate against the way a person thinks, that would be going down the road of thought crimes. It is not illegal to hold racist beliefs, like it is not against the law to be a pervert, believe in Satan or like N-Dubz. Apart from anything else it would be impossible to police.

Racism - on the other hand, is acting on those beliefs. If someone refused to serve you in a shop or give you a job because of your race; if someone were to abuse someone or even give them a tuning simply because of their race, that is racism - and that is illegal. it is also illegal to incite racial hatred in others.

I sort of agree with you on the last comment about banning certain items of headgear in certain places, but you would have to say 'face Cover' - full stop. Your list does not include, for instance, ski masks or gorilla masks - someone could just walk in and say, "well this honey monster suit is not included on your list".

If you just ban the burqa women who are determined not to show their face could just swap to ski masks which would not be covered by a ban on the burqa.

I agree with the Turban thing, i really cant see it protecting you as much as a bike helmet. I have to say though, i have never seen anyone on a bike with a turban.

As for the Burqa, there is no bending of rules, there is no rule against it, so they are abiding by our rules.

Not sure what your point is. Two countries have banned them, that does not constitute the 'western world' either.

The Burqa is not against the law in the UK, therefore wearing a Burqa is abiding by our rules.
