January window

Tue Jul 20, 2010 12:37 pm

I think the Malaysians are holding off to throw a bit of money in for players untill the January transfer window so they got an idea on how the team is doing etc?

I got good faith in Tan supplying a couple of million if we are in top 6 in January with the hope city can go up and then he gains millions.

It just makes you think how close city were to clearing all their debt and giving millions to the club- 90 mins of football away from a reformed club and we messed it up-its just so frustrating-but we battle on and i think as long as we can keep dave jones we will be ok. At the moment the malaysians are feeding the club the bare minimum to stablise and organise the club-if they need to throw in a little bit more then im sure they will. what would spell disaster is if the malaysians withdrew their roll in cardiff city and money-then we would be in trouble but as carlccfc has been posting it seems and i hope they are in it for the long run.

Keep your eyes on January-that is the key date-i think we will be in the same position as janaury last year-top 6 and we will then-unlike last season-get the little cash injection to buy the right player in the right position.

whats everybody else think?

city to finish 2nd next season on the last day -beating forest to the finishing line

I think quite the opposite. We did blow our big chance in the play-off final, but no matter where we are in January we won't be throwing the cash.

The Malaysians have a medium to long term plan to return this club to a secure financial footing and those plans would be destroyed if they started taking part in a Ridsdale type gamble on promotion and lost.

dont think there will be any money thrown anywhere.
there will be plenty of times when we will feel were about to drown and theyl put in the bare minimum to keep us going, until they have rid the club of leeches and get the club how they want it, i cant see much happening.
long term it will be for the best aslong as they stick around.... hmmm  :ayatollah:

I think the opposite as well, who do you think is advising the Malaysians on all things football, Gethin! they undoubtedly are good business men, but this is a unique business, unless we get our star players contracted up we will lose them like we did Ledley.

If they are prepared to invest money for team strengthening and rebuilding, why aren't they doing it now and why wait until January. I have seen nothing that impresses me that they are putting the footballing side of things anywhere near their top of priority list and possibly they will take a few relegations or whatever is necessary whilst they sort out the off field finances.

A lot of people who slate Sam for taking a punt at it will soon get their wish of slow careful steady progress (hopefully) or even a few years of steady building in the lower divisions, our loyalty in numbers I feel will soon be tested, who'd bet on how many season tickets we'll sell next year.

If they were going to take a punt regarding on field progress they would be doing it now,if we are struggling in the bottom half of the division come January and our wages are no different to clubs like Swansea, where would the attraction be to bring players in from other clubs.

We have only attracted players like Chopra, Whittingham and Bothroyd because we were prepared to pay more than any other club who were after them,FACT. Do you think they'd have come to us if they could have got more elsewhere.

WHY WOULD THEY?

Tony, I agree 100% with you. They have seen first hand how easy it is to get a football club in deep trouble. I think they will drip feed us as necessary and keep afloat. When they can see the club back on an even keel they might then get rid of the dead wood on the board and then start to enjoy the season ticket revenue for the 2010/2011 season.
We must never forget how close we came to losing our club thanks to the incompetence and sheer greed of the riddler and other than the Ledley fiasco ( riddler again )we still have our team in tact.
I just hope that the supporters have patience and back TG and VT to the hilt and when we have a club that is financially secure they can all breathe easily.

I dont think they will invest a penny into transfer fees unless its from money from actual transfer sales out , in other words the need to sell either our best player or best youngster before they will buy in . Thats assuming that the asking prices are met and that anybody actually wants them and can match the high salaries ?

Gwyn, i cant see cardiff getting relegated in the next few years or being in the lower divisions again-i feel if we keep dave jones-he doesnt know how to get relegated-its not his type, ok we are very tight on finances but i think if we keep dave jones we will be ok-he seems to be happy in cardiff with his family and on a very good wage. i think we will get the main players to sign new contracts-keep the faith- cardiff city are a championship club at the least and we got too much going for us to get relegated.

perhaps im being a bit too positive but we will see

No one would have Bothroyd when he first came to us. Well Leeds showed an interest but they were in league one. Its why we got him cheap. Chopra was not up to much at Newcastle and no one was interested in him. He took the drop, ressurrected himself then first chance went to Sunderland. He did not do much there and actually went backward on the gambling. We are the only club that has taken him seriously . Personally I think the Riddler could have paid these guys less but he just does not seem to do that.

If we drop down a division or start having relegation battles like the 70s then the Malaysians will never see a return for their money. We will be lucky to have an operating cost that will break even therefore unable to pay off any of the debt. There is only one way out of this and that is the premier.

Adding to this does anyone think Sam would talk to the Malaysians if it came obvious we could fall a few divisions. I would say Sam would want his money back now if that was the case. Sam knows these guys are not going to let us drop.

Then we hear about the Malaysians other business adventures they want to do here in the UK like the online gambling stuff. Having us in the premier will be the perfect springboard for them. I just cant see us being allowed to drop with these guys on board.

The only problem we have is why should the egg chasers benefit from all this if they dont want to contribute. However much the Malaysians have got they wont just buy out PMG to please PMG but will get them out at their own price. Interesting to see how they do it though.

It looks like we are going to keep our team intact. Rumours are we will strengthen the squad before the start of the season. I dont see any other team in the division going crazy with new guys. If DJ does his job right I expect us to be up there come January. Hopefully the egg chasers will be gone because if they are I can see some money being pumped into the club to make sure we do it this time.

I would agree that the only way we will spend is if we sell first.

However, I think the Malaysians believe we have a good enough side to compete in this league already (they are probably right) and would prefer to keep what we have rather than shuffle around because that inccurs costs to agents etc.

If we can sign up Bothroyd, Matthews, Whittingham etc I think that will be as good as it gets this summer, with just the addition of a couple of unknown Frenchmen joining on freebies and probably another loan player.

If they are chucking money on new players its only going to increase our debt, they aint just going to give the club money for a laugh. Let them sort the debt out so we cn move forward long term.

How are they going to do that Luke? The only way I can see is a sustained challenged for the premier resulting in us getting there.

Im not saying them dont plan on getting the team into the prem and gaining money back that way but for now and this season I think they are concentrating on sorting the mess of the previous chairmen. We should not be spending more than our turnover, its only going to end one way like that. Reduce the debt, get money coming back into the club and then look at investing into the squad at a reasonable level.
