Well the latest by the anti drinking lobby!! to make Alcohol more expensive to stop youngsters drinking to excess, and to deter Alcoholics drinking so much.
Why ?? Why should i have to pay more because of underage yobs drinking to much and causing anti social behaviour. Why should i pay more because certain people dont know when to stop or dont work and spend all there dole money on booze and become alcohol dependant. Which to some is some horrible disease.
Now my point of view youngsters should not be able to buy booze but because of greedy shopkeepers or lax standards it is bloody easy for them to get hold of alcohol. There are laws in place but not very often are shopkeepers prosecuted. They should have a two strikes and you are out rule where they will never be allowed to sell alcohol again, but why should i have to pay more which incidentally means more money in tax for the government!! no coincidence me thinks

It's not the price of alcohol, it's the culture we have been brought up in. Given the seriousness of the situation, pricing is one strategy that cannot be overlooked. Stricter licensing would also help. However, things have gone so far that one has to wonder if there is a way back.

Think that the vast amount of underage drinkers, get the immature over 18's to buy the drink for them, or get their drink from home, with or without the knowledge of their parents!
There may be some lax shopkeepers around, but what I've seen in Pembrokeshire, is the shopkeepers / staff checking ID's, but the immature lot showing off and buying their younger friends their fix!

No shortage of binge drinkers in their late 20s and beyond. The fundamental problem is not with the youngsters, but those they take their lead from.

i reckon you should only be able to buy alcohol from a pub. this would give the pubs the income they need to survive. obviously this won't happen because the supermarkets would kick off. either that or it should be cheaper in the pub and cost more from the offies/supermarkets. i know this will affect reasonable drinkers but for fucks sake you can buy a can of lager in a supermarket for less than a can of coke.

putting prices up is just a way for the govt to make tax revenue coz Alcoholics will always drink and others who find it expensive always manage too

We've got a drinking culture in this country, we always have and, by the looks of things, we will find it very hard to shake off. I find it quite sad, really. I know that we may not necessarily have the heaviest alcohol consumption per head in Europe, but it's the way we behave once we've consumed that alcohol that is the worst in Europe

if the ob treated the drunken chav twats that plague the town centres on weekends like they treat footie fans whove had a drink then im sure it would stop !!

I had to give up alcohol for 6 months in uni due to medication and since then I've found alcohol isn't as important to me as it was. I can easily go months without drinking and still go out, socialise etc. It's a shame the drinking culture has become so vital to so many.
I don't care if alcohol prices increase because booze isn't that important to me but I can see how it would upset some. Saying that, as someone said, it's an obvious strategy to combat binge drinking. However, will it improve the problem or just force people to spend more. Either way, the government wins!

I have 2 twin 15 year old boys & have found it harder & harder to keep them away from the lure of the drink culture. they've always been good sporty boys & Box 3 times a week & play a good standard of football. What has shocked me over the last year is the number of lads they used to play football with have packed in any sporting activity & turned to regular binge drinking. We've all been through a experimental stage during youth where you try out different things but what is more worrying now is the amount & regularity that they consume alcohol.I agree with the comments that alcohol should only be sold in pubs, it's just too easy & cheap to buy in supermarkets. If nothing is done soon there's going to be some serious health casualties in the future.
