REASON FOR KENNEDY DEAL

Sat Jul 24, 2010 11:07 am

Is the reason for the Kennedy's proposed sale to Ipswich not just a money issue?

As much as the club obviously need the cash, I understand that a club under a transfer embargo with less than 20 professional players signed on can bring in a loan signing.

So is it that once/if Kennedy signs for Ipswich the club can/will announce that Drinkwater has signed officially and can play in competitive games.

If this scenario is correct then it would seem that the club are not confident about the lifting of the embargo anytime soon.

We've still got about 23 players though Carl!

I've just checked the official site and counted 20 players Carl!

Ledley and Capaldi are still on there though FFS! :ayatollah:

Just checked it again and Heaton and Drinkwater are not listed there either!

If Kennedy was still with us, I'd have been right with my 23 players! :)

we have 22 players first team, but if you take out the 2 youth team ones we have only 20 including Heaton, so goodbye Gypese hello 3 new signings

I think you'll find that Carl was summising and that his observation was not borne out of inside information (For once)! ;) :ayatollah:

The official website shows 23 players but still includes Joe, Capaldi and Kennedy which takes it down to 20 however it is missing Santiago the third keeper and Drinkwater.

IF this is the clubs plan to reduce numbers by about three to bring in one then there are a bunch of dickheads running our club. I mentioned this scenario as a joke elsewhere, I repeat, A JOKE!!!

Its quite sad that we are having to do this Carl, just to get a loan signing.

Just a general question, is it 20 players in total or 20 outfield players?

Just wondering as I believe there is a seperate rule for Goalkeepers in extreme emergencies.

This is not true. at least in Kennedy's case. He was under contract.

This is our current squad of registered players all 22 of them

Marshall - GK
Heaton - GK
Santiago - GK
Mcnaughton - DF
Kennedy - DF
Hudson - DF
Gypes - DF
Quinn - DF
Commingues - DF
Matthews - DF
Gerrard - DF
Blake - DF
Rae - MF
Whittingham - MF
McPhail - MF
Burke - MF
Taiwo - MF
Wildig - MF
Meades - MF
Chopra - ST
Bothroyd - ST
McCormack -ST

Take Kennedy off that and we still have a first team squad of 21. I know its a thin squad but football league rules stipulate that a minumum squad of 20 players is required.

I had'nt heard of this rule until Portsmouth pulled it this week and i doubt many others had either, call it stupid if you will but i think it could be quite a shrewd move by the board, sacrificing Kennedy for £75k for a further three loan signings, could be seen as a clever move. then again i could be miles off :?:

Yes Pompey were the first I think to use the Rule to their Advantage, when your down and out, you need a some life line.

Quite true, any port in a storm, but if and its a big if, it is the line they are taking then i say hats off to whoever at the club spotted the loophole, three decent loan signings could make the world of differance to our season, maybe TG or someone else at the club is picking the workings of football up quicker than we gave them credit for.like i say i might be wrong and were fooked!!

If we're at the stage of having to count our squad members before making loan signings, it makes the 6 month deal given to Commingues even more ridiculous :o
