Should Cardiff City council be a shamed of themselves?

Sun Jul 25, 2010 6:57 pm

They were ( CCC ) never going to deal with Sam, yet fell over backwards for PMG.PMG will walk away with a profit making Retail Park & land to build a nice new hotel but the capital city football club will be left in turmoil. Cardiff city council will have a lot to answer to Cardiff ratepayers

Spot on there! But this has backhanders written all over it! If Sam would have been prepared to deal with the rugby he probably would never have been ousted.

The council tie up should be investigated as they have backed ridsdale and pmg to the hilt. They refused to even investigate the golden ticket scam and would not let the whole council debate the land sell off, choosing instead to keep it to their inner circle cabinet members. Rodney Berman even said it was a done deal before they even had the meeting. The deputy leader of the council is a director of a football management company and have football agents on their books.

Eh? The bulk of ratepayers are wondering why and how we got the land!

Nerd,

The land was basically waste land, and what the council did was create jobs give the city a nice new stadium and opened the door to possible premiership football of which the area would have benefited immensely from. So you could say it is good business overall. Better to give away a bit of waste land and create a couple of hundred jobs and open the door on possible premiership football than to have a bit of land that has been there for years just over growing! If someone would have wanted to buy it they would have done so by now.

Agree, to an extent. The land value far exceeds the new jobs etc... The council eye was on the Arms Park land. Nothing more, nothing less.

But there's zero chance any of the things you've mentioned cover the land value.

Annis

Calling the Council leader a short arsed Scottish queer , or very similar (allegedly) didn`t exactly help Sam`s cause.

Being totally inflexible over giving a sub-lease to Cardiff Blues didn`t help either.

But the main thing that sank Sam`s plans dead in the water before , during and after the above events was his consistent failure over many months to show that the money was available to build the stadium.

He was asked on several occasions to answer where the money was or where it was coming from and refused or was unable to do so.His business plan for a near £50m building project was simply totally inadequate and this was what lost him any kind of support or trust from the Council , both its leaders and its professional staff controlling the project.

I have commented on this before , but would repeat what I was told by someone who read Sam`s various "business plans" in detail - "they looked as if they were written by a 7 year old".
