I understand that money is being put into the club by the Malaysians over this weekend that will see the tax bill finally settled and also that will see the transfer embargo lifted on us.

I have been told that Dave Jones has players identified and will look to bring them in as soon as possible.

Brilliant news I always thought we would have to wait for the beginging of August.

If true we can go into the 1st game full of optimism, the lack of transfer activity is doing my swede in...finding it hard to get excited about the start of the season yet.

I said in an earleir thread that i was pretty confident that the embargo would be lifted soon enabling us to sign players before the first league game.

The court case on the 11th will still go ahead though but just as a formality.

Carl, from what I have been told, it was not the tax bill that put us under an embargo, but it was because we have not paid Charlton and they not the taxman reported us to the FA, or do you mean that the money put in over the weekend will pay Charlton

You may well be correct that the only piece left to settle the embargo maybe Charlton but I would think that the tax for May needs to be paid along with Mothwell.

One months tax was paid leaving us 2 month in arrears and the HMRC were satisfied therefore the embargo could be lifted, but then the Charlton and Motherwell scenario arose and the embargo remained, but since then Junes tax has been due also so again we are 3 months in arrears so im sure the HMRC will not be satisfied again so it could well be due to the tax as well as money owing to the other clubs, correct me if im wrong.

Mike Morris posted the news about the embargo being lifted ( (Friday or Monday he was informed) on his board in the early hours of this morning.

Carl thats not what i meant, what im saying is that we are under the embargo due to owing other clubs money, we were not under it due to tax issues after one month was paid, but now another months is due we could well be under it due to that issue.

Yes Nobby you are correct and we do need to pay or at least agree settlement with both Charlton and Motherwell, I suspect settlement would be more on the cards.

Im pretty sure they would want settlement especially with our track record lately, im confident it will all be sorted though.

It was my opinion that it would not be paid until we were into August but I have been told last night that the money will be there this weekend.

If this is the case (and I hope to god its is Carl) then we can all chill at last. I think the starting 11 we have is good enough and all we need is a bit more competition and cover for injuries. I even heard DJ talking about an alternative of hoofing the ball up to Jay earlier on today .

Just a thought but, most loan signings happen towards the end of the transfer window anyway, when clubs realise they cant sell the player off and are looking for someone to contribute towards the wages. I also think our only realistic option this season was loan signings anyway, so basically embongo or not we wouldn't have done that much business anyway.

Totally agree, there is also the 25 man squad for all premiership clubs this season, once the managers finalise their 25 they will want the rest to be playing weekin week out in the championship, there will be plenty of decent players available, lets just hope we can grab a few of them!!!!

The tax bill HMRC were petitioning for was £1.3m , which equates to 2 months` PAYE/NI , April and May 2010 , which are peak liability months as they include end of season bonuses for the playing squad (plus we had a higher than expected May bill due to reaching the play-off final).

It has already been confirmed that the Month 1 (i.e April) debt was paid , leaving just May (payable 19 June) and June (only just becoming payable earlier this week) outstanding.The June bill will be considerably less than April or May as it was for a non-playing month (as will July`s bill) That led to HMRC agreeing to withdraw their petition.

The accounts were filed for May 2009 and agreement was reached with Sunderland re the balance due on Chopra`s transfer, so that only leaves the Charlton and Motherwell transfer fee matters to be sorted to lift the embargo.
