Hi people. My wife had a car crash Wednesday night. It has been established that the crash was the other side's fault as he was on her side of the road and they had a head on. She has a dislocated elbow and other assorted injuries. There has been contact regarding compensation for loss and injuries etc and I currently have a hire care probably being paid for by the other side as my car is a write off.
Has anyone got any advice at all please? This has never happened to me and I am a bit unsure as to what procedures to follow etc.
Does anyone know any of the following?
How long will I get to keep the replacement hire car for? As I said mine is written off and I am going to struggle to get a new car. I am due to get posted to Cyprus in January/February and ideally don't want a new one. I have looked at leasing but it looks very expensive. Anyone know if I can buy a car from anywhere then sell it back 7 months later. Do any companies do that?
Is there anything we need to do at all regarding the accident?
How long can the Police keep my wife's phone for?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Forensics to check she wasn't on the phone at the time of the crash.

It is not compulsory for you to use the Legal Expenses policy provided by your own Insurance Company. However you will need to check whether it is them that provided you with the Hire Car. (You dont want them taking the car off you).
Who is your Motor Insurer?
.... Who is the Legal Expense Insurer?

Aviva are my motor insurer, Irwin Mitchell are legal people. Driver assist provided the car which Aviva sorted after I believe police told them my wife was not at fault and the Police impounded car so there was delay getting me a courtesy car hence why they hired me a car as I was stuck in Lincoln.
